For this position, we are seeking a highly talented and experienced epidemiologist with expertise in a wide range of epidemiologic methods to lead innovative research projects and contribute to advancing our understanding of complex public health issues. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in designing and implementing epidemiological studies, applying advanced statistical techniques, and interpreting data to elucidate causal relationships between exposures and outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in epidemiology research and advanced methods for addressing etiologic research questions and generating evidence-based recommendations for disease prevention, intervention, and public health policy. As a Principal Researcher, he/she will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and interpreting epidemiological studies aimed at understanding the causes and consequences of various health outcomes. Also, it is expected that he/she plays a significant role in the coordination and teaching activities that are allocated to ISPUP, namely in the first undergraduate degree in Public Health in Portugal (3-year degree developed in collaboration with an external University) scheduled to begin in the 2024/25 academic year with the formal support of the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region; as well as in the coordination of the Public Health Medical Residency Specialization Course at ISPUP.Also, it is expected that the candidate has maturity to be engaged in fostering existing and new international collaborative networks and promoting  international researcher mobility in and out of ISPUP combined with the responsibility of representing the institution at the international level. The involvement in international panels of scientific assessment, namely serving as external evaluator of competitive grants, will be valued as will the organization of large scientific events. It is also expected that the candidate contributes to the strategic plan of the host institution, helping to align the available resources to the areas of most beneficial impact. Contributions to the society are ISPUP priorities, thus the candidate should have experience in knowledge transfer and in putting people into public health.The candidate must have a PhD degree in the field of Public Health or Epidemiology with over 5 years of professional experience, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which he/she applies, demonstrating scientific independence over the past 3 years. He/she should show leadership of scientific research projects on population health research; experience in training and mentoring of PhD students; experience in conducting and disseminating research in collaboration with diverse stakeholders within the public health community including civil society organizations.The candidate profile for this public health research position emphasizes several key criteria including a strong track record of international publications, the ability to secure competitive research funding, collaboration with diverse stakeholders, contribution to health policy development, and scientific editing experience in public health. The evaluation process aims to identify a candidate who demonstrates excellence across these dimensions, ensuring they are well-equipped to make significant contributions to the national and international projection of ISPUP/EPIUnit.
