The selected candidate will integrate the Autonomous System Laboratory part of the Centre of Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CRAS) at INESC TEC Associated Laboratory (www.inesctec.pt). CRAS team members have more than 30 years of research experience in Robotics and Autonomous Systems, with a wide range of national and international activities. The position includes the chair established between INESCTEC and ISEP.The candidate will be an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering at ISEP and is expected to contribute to the Robotics and Autonomous Systems in a broad type of activities. As for teaching: develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in Robotics and Autonomous Systems, especially in the Autonomous System branch for Master of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Electrical Engineering PhD courses; design curriculum and instructional materials in alignment with the latest advancements in Marine Robotics, Perception, Navigation, Positioning, Sensors, and Marine/Underwater Systems; and mentor and supervise students in research projects related to Robotics and Autonomous Systems. The candidate must also show a strong commitment to research activities like: leading (participant or PI) cutting-edge research in the field of Marine Robotics, addressing the offshore structures area , focusing on Perception, Navigation, Positioning, and Sensors; publishing research findings in reputable scientific journals and presenting at national and international conferences; collaborating with other professors and researchers to contribute to interdisciplinary projects; cooperating with CRAS research team in the network activities and funding effort for the laboratory, submitting proposals at national and international institutions. The candidate will also assume administrative duties, contribute to the improvement of the Robotics program, serve on departmental and polytechnic committees as needed and fulfil other administrative responsibilities as assigned.Additionally, the candidate is expected to participate in outreach activities with the main emphasis on engagement with industry partners and the community to foster collaborations and apply robotic solutions to real-world challenges in the specific context of offshore technologies. The candidate must also participate with the general public to promote awareness and understanding of Robotics and Autonomous Systems.Scientific Profile:The ideal candidate for this position must possess the following requirements:Ph.D in Robotics or Electric and Computer Engineering with a robotics specialisation or equivalentExperience in Marine Robotics, Perception, Navigation, Positioning, and related areas, focused on offshore structuresPreferably, a proven track record of research in Marine Robotics, evidenced by publications in reputable journals and conferencesExperience securing external research funding and leading research projects is appreciatedPrior teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate levelsAbility to develop and deliver innovative and engaging courses in Robotics and Autonomous SystemsProficiency in programming languages commonly used in RoboticsExpertise in the use and development of Robotics/or sensors for marine applications;Strong background in algorithm development for perception, navigation and positioningDemonstrated ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and industry partnersExcellent communication skills to convey complex scientific concepts to students and collaborators.Rationale:The need to hire an Adjunct professor in Robotics and Autonomous Systems is driven by the increasing demand for expertise in this rapidly evolving field. Robotics is now integral in addressing challenges in marine environments where autonomous systems play a crucial role in exploration, monitoring, and research. The interdisciplinary nature of Marine Robotics, covering perception, navigation, positioning, and sensors, requires a dedicated faculty member with a deep scientific profile. The candidate will contribute to advancing the academic and research profile of the institution, ensuring that students receive high-quality education aligned with the latest advancements in Robotics and Autonomous Systems. Moreover, the candidate´s research activities are expected to enhance the institution´s reputation, foster collaborations with industry and contribute to the development of solutions for marine and underwater applications. The hiring of an expert in Marine Robotics aligns with the institution´s commitment to excellence in education, research, and community engagement. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Robotics and Autonomous Systems and contribute to the institution´s standing as a leader in this field.
