Sumário

IMS invites applications for a highly motivated and experienced researcher with a Ph.D. in Chemistry or related areas, to produce independent research aligned with the thematic lines of IMS and the research unit CQE. This opportunity entails spearheading the X-ray diffraction facility to support independent research aligned with the MedLife thematic lines, focusing on groundbreaking developments in novel drug forms.The IMS and CQE general mission concerns the strengthening of the contribution of Chemistry to the welfare of Society through high-level research, development, innovation, knowledge transfer, advanced training and teaching activities, building-up scientific and technological skills in both fundamental and oriented/applied research, in science and engineering. The unique structural information provided by the single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction (SCXRD and PXRD, respectively) data is vital to a wealth of scientific fields, serving all the thematic lines within IMS and CQE and over 90% of the groups. The facility also serves diverse external users and has collaboration with companies. The XRD facility within IMS is not just a technological asset but a manifestation of its commitment to advancing Chemistry´s societal contribution. It amplifies the research avenues, catalyzes innovation, facilitates knowledge transfer, empowers advanced training, enriches teaching excellence, and, most importantly, positions IMS, and thus CQE, as contributor to the well-being of society through the transformative power of Chemistry.The researcher hired for this position should be an expert in X-ray diffraction, showcasing competences in SCXRD and PXRD data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Proficiency in crystallography, coupled with extensive experience in managing and operating XRD facilities, is paramount. Additionally, the candidate should exhibit mastery in crystal engineering and supramolecular chemistry, with a proven track record in the area of antimicrobial drug forms targeting multi-resistant microorganisms, substantiated by a robust publication track record.The establishment of effective management of the X-ray diffraction facility within IMS is not merely a choice but a strategic imperative, amplifying the commitment to scientific excellence and societal progress, and addressing UN Sustainable Development Goal 9. The appropriate management of the XRD facilities is fundamental to ensure access to world-class facilities, expertise, and support for the analysis of crystalline materials through PXRD and SCXRD. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in setting up the instrumentation, maintaining the equipment, managing user access, providing training and support, providing services regarding SCXRD and PXRD, data and interpretation, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines. The mandate extends beyond XRD scientific prowess, demanding autonomy, teamwork, project management finesse, and effective communication skills. These include looking for opportunities to implement advanced instrumentation and different national and international funding mechanisms.Allied with these management skills, the candidate should explore the facility to perform independent research aligned with IMS and CQE interests. Unravelling molecular structures and championing innovative projects within the field of drug discovery is an important asset to advance the frontiers of scientific understanding in global efforts, including against antibiotic resistance within the aims of MEDlife thematic line and aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3. By appointing a researcher for the XRD Facility management with expertise in crystal engineering, and supramolecular chemistry towards new drug forms, significant contributions to the discovery of new therapeutic agents are anticipated, including new approaches to fight antimicrobial resistance societal problems. The prevalence of sustainable synthetic methods, such as mechanochemistry, is expected. The establishment of this position reflects IMS and CQE commitment to staying at the forefront of scientific research and contributing to solutions for urgent public health and environmental challenges.This position will contribute to reinforce the positioning of IMS in XRD and in the myriad of research areas that require XRD as a support technique, advancing the development of new services, and fostering collaboration within the scientific community and with industry. By making simultaneous use of the facility for independent research strongly based on structure elucidation for the development of more effective drug forms, the candidate will further contribute to scientific advances aligned with the research interests of IMS and CQE.Mechanisms are in place to ensure the success of this recruitment, including a thorough selection process and ongoing support for the professional development of the appointed XRD Facility Manager.

  • Beneficiários Diretos são aqueles cujos financiamento e projetos a executar constam do Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência negociado e aprovado pela União Europeia;
