IMS invites applications for a highly motivated and experienced researcher with a Ph.D. in Chemistry or related areas, to produce independent research aligned with the thematic lines of IMS and the research unit CQE, focusing on groundbreaking developments in NMR spectroscopy for the determination of molecular structure, interactions, and mechanisms in novel advanced cancer therapeutic agents.NMR is a powerful characterization technique that is fundamental in many scientific fields. The NMR facility at IMS is a fundamental infrastructure used by all thematic lines within IMS, as well as by other Research units, companies, and public institutions. It has an essential role in enabling the mission of IMS, CQE and other research units, to contribute to Society through high-level Research, leading to Development, Innovation, Transfer of Knowledge, and Advanced Training.The candidate for this position should be an expert in NMR spectroscopy, showing proficiency in solution NMR, HRMAS, solid-state NMR, and high-pressure NMR. Extensive experience in managing and operating NMR facilities is paramount. Additionally, the candidate should perform independent high impact research in NMR spectroscopy applied to the study of the molecular structure, interactions and mechanisms for advanced cancer therapeutic agents based on novel metallodrugs, substantiated by a robust publication track-record, to develop independent research aligned with the IMS and CQE thematic lines. This position reflects IMS commitment to strengthening its position at the forefront of scientific research and leveraging solutions for urgent public health challenges (UN Sustainable Development Goal 3). Establishing effective management of the NMR facility within IMS is not merely a choice but a strategic imperative, amplifying the commitment of IMS to scientific excellence and societal progress. Additionally, this facility will reinforce the networking at IMS and CQE, by supporting ongoing research and fostering collaboration within the scientific community and with industry. The appropriate management of the NMR facilities is fundamental to ensure access to the facility, the expertise to implement new techniques, and the support for the analysis of molecules and materials by NMR. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in setting up the instrumentation, maintaining the equipment, managing user access, providing training and support, providing services regarding NMR, data and interpretation, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines. The mandate extends beyond NMR scientific prowess, demanding autonomy, teamwork, project management finesse, and effective communication skills. These include looking for opportunities to implement advanced instrumentation by actively seeking and applying to different national and international funding mechanisms. The selected candidate should thus be able to participate and lead reequipment calls, together with the NMR Lab of the Department of Physics Engineering, as the two labs belong to the IST node in the Portuguese NMR Network.
