Scientific profile and tasks to be assigned :The Innovative Therapies thematic line brings together researchers with the purpose of performing interdisciplinary research for the development of innovative tools and approaches for prevention and treatment of a selected group of disorders that are exacerbated in the aged population, such as neurodegenerative, ischemic, infectious and cancer diseases. This thematic line is strategic for CIBB because it will create translational and economical value for the Center Region of Portugal in the area of biotechnology/health sciences. It benefits from a special niche in the Center Region of Portugal, formed by Biocant, the first Portuguese biotechnology park, and of the Coimbra University Hospital (CHUC), one of the best and the largest in Portugal. Members of this Strand have launched several spin-offs including TREAT U SA, Exogenus Therapeutics, Matera and CureMat, all located at Biocant Park.The selected applicant in Innovative Therapies should have a research program aligned with CIBB´s Innovative Therapies thematic line. The applicant should demonstrate the capacity to: (i) establish a competitive research program with leading international research groups in the disciplines referred above, (ii) train researchers in Innovative Therapies, (iii) publish impactful international peer review publications among the topics of Innovative Therapies and (iv) catalyze the translation of scientific discoveries in the economic chain value.  It is also expected that the applicant demonstrate capacity to establish collaborative projects with the research groups at the 3 thematic strands of CIBB. Rationale for the need, relevance of the scientific profile in the context of the state-of-the-art and involved institutions :The need of an Advanced Therapies position is justified by the importance of this thematic line at CIBB. The recruitment of an Investigator in Innovative Therapies will rejuvenate and consolidate the CIBB in this specific area. It is expected that the selected applicant will contribute for the excellence in research and innovation in CIBB and the efforts will translate into products that have impact in patient care. Importantly, Innovative Therapies is an area of great relevance at CIBB for the close interaction of both institutions with the Coimbra University Hospital (CHUC), the largest Portuguese Hospital Center, the interaction with the Clinical Academic Center of Coimbra (CACC), and interaction with the innovation hub in Biomedicine around Coimbra that includes the Instituto Pedro Nunes, Biocant and Colab4Ageing.
