The person to be hired should develop scientific activities within the framework of one or more CERES thematic lines (TL), particularly:- Environmental TechnologiesThis line of research involves the prevention and protection of environmental harm on our planet, where industrial chemical processes can play an important role. In particular, when considering the global agenda (UN Sustainable Development Goals and EU Green Deal, at the frontline) to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable and circular (bio)economy while focusing on Climate Action, Zero Waste, Zero Pollution, and Water Circularity approaches. A novel paradigm in which emission streams are envisaged as a source of value-added compounds, energy, and water is explored in this thematic line. Some examples of activities include the recovery of compounds by adsorption, absorption, nanofiltration, extraction with solvents and supercritical fluids, bio-solvents, ionic liquids, or specific enzymes, whereas bio-augmentation and biotechnology may be targeted strategies for green biogas and bioethanol production.- Biotechnology and HealthIn this thematic line the researcher activities should as much as possible be aligned with three main areas – Health, Biosciences and Biotechnology, as well as with their wide range of intersections. The activities should be mainly oriented towards Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and make use of some of the new paradigms in Chemical Engineering and Food Engineering, namely based on Green Chemistry and Engineering, Sustainable Products and Processes.The successful candidate must have a strong background in chemical engineering or similar areas, with a focus on innovation and practical applications.The successful candidate will carry out the following activities:1. Conduct innovative research in one or more of the fields identified above, includingplanning and management of the laboratory and/or computational facilities allocated,safeguarding the safety and well-being of the research team.2. Be involved in training activities, namely environmental technologies, food engineering, multiphasic systems, process and product design, biorefineries.3. Actively engage in public and private funding applications and attract human resourcesto build up the critical mass necessary to sustain the research activities.4. Supervise students, from different levels (graduate or undergraduate) and juniorresearchers.5. Attract and supervise high quality national and international PhD students and post-doctoral researchers.6. Submit the research work to high impact journals and participate in or organizedissemination events.7. Engage in activities with the national and international research community, increasingthe visibility of the host institution and its establishment as a reference researchinstitution.8. Actively participate in extension activities involving companies and stakeholders as wellas communication of science targeting the general public showing the research conductedin the CERES and its contribution to the society.9. Providing services to the community taking advantage of the CERES R&D unitinfrastructures.
