The job description of the Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering to be hired involves a combination of teaching responsibilities at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, and research activities at the R&D Unit CEMMPRE, integrated into the Advanced Production and Intelligent Systems (ARISE) Associated Laboratory (AL). The detailed breakdown of the main aspects of the role are: Teaching:Deliver lectures, conduct seminars, and lead discussions related to mechanical engineering topics.Developing course materials, including syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, and exams.Providing guidance and mentorship to students in and outside the classroom.Contributing to the development and enhancement of the mechanical engineering curriculum, within UC.Staying abreast of societal trends and technological advancements to ensure the curriculum remains relevant.Introduce new courses or modify existing ones to meet evolving societal needs.Engaging in outreach activities to promote courses offer by the mechanical engineering department and UC. Research:Engaging in research activities within the field of mechanical engineering.Publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.Pursuing external research grants and funding to support research endeavours.Collaborating with colleagues, graduate students, and industry partners on research projects. Transversal activities:Promoting experimental and/or virtual facilities to support teaching and research.Advising undergraduate and graduate students on academic and career-related matters.Mentoring graduate students in their research projects and dissertations.Participating in R&D Institutions and university committees and meetings.Engaging in open science activities.Pursuing opportunities for professional growth and advancement.Establishing and maintaining relationships with the different stakeholders, such as industrial partners.Bringing societal challenges perspectives into the institution to maximize the impact of his/her research.The Assistant Professor will be on a tenure track, and his/her teaching, research, and transversal activities will be crucial for the renewal of the staff, assuring the continuous development of the institution. He/She will work closely with colleagues, students, and external partners to contribute to the community and advance knowledge in Mechanics and Manufacturing. The rationale for hiring someone with expertise in the mentioned area is based on the need to consolidate and improve the research team in the Mechanics and Manufacturing field, while renewing the staff of the bachelor, master, and doctoral programs involving mechanical engineering at UC, particularly in the Mechanics and Manufacturing field. The courses of the bachelor programs (namely Elasticity and Plasticity, Manufacturing Processes, Forming and Cutting Technologies, Casting and Joining Technologies, and Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing,), the master programs (in particular, Materials Selection and Processing, Subtractive and Additive Manufacturing, Complementary Manufacturing Processes, and Numerical Simulation of Manufacturing Processes), and the existing research team in Mechanics and Manufacturing need to be reinforced. The expertise in some of the following areas: Computational mechanics; Manufacturing processes; Robustness and optimization in mechanical modelling; and/or Characterization of the tribological and mechanical behaviour of materials, is crucial to support the continuous development of the research field of Mechanics and Manufacturing
Beneficiários
As duas tipologias são:
- Beneficiários Diretos são aqueles cujos financiamento e projetos a executar constam do Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência negociado e aprovado pela União Europeia;
