Job description :The Assistant Professor to be hired is expected to have a background in robotics and machine learning/ artificial intelligence (ML/AI). This position reflects the DEEC-FCTUC interest in candidates that can demonstrate that their research activity brings major research strengths and can also show that they can grow their tasks and activity in AI/ML applied to robotics, covering theoretical and applied topics. We are interested in candidates from a range of backgrounds including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics (ground and/or aerial and/or maritime). It is essential that candidates complement DEEC-FCTUC’s existing research capabilities and have the vision to expand our research into the growing areas of AI/ML and robotic systems. Rationale :The DEEC-FCTUC has identified robotics and machine learning (also designated AI hereafter) as an important area for growth and therefore the rationale behind this position is that intelligent (ie, AI/ML based) robotics is a promising and challenging area which is part of the DEEC-FCTUC’s strategy to expand its capability and to strengthen DEEC-FCTUC’s growing reputation in this area. The recent progress in robotics and related technologies, coupled with advancements in ML/AI, have significantly expanded the capabilities in many sectors, ranging from social robotics, agricultural robots, assistive robotics, to advanced robot systems. The development and deployment of autonomous/intelligent robots (including but not limited to ground, aerial, space, maritime) present significant challenges, for example autonomy, reasoning, perception, flexibility, as well as societal challenges, including safety and transparency. The candidates are expected to demonstrate new and credible research plans on intelligent robotics, emphasizing topics that complement the DEEC-FCTUC existing research capabilities and have the vision to expand our research into the growing areas of ML/AI coupled with robotic systems. Scientific Profile :A PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or PhD in any other closely related field.Excellent communication skills in English, ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, scientific creativity and a strong interpersonal skill.A strong background in Robotics and/or relevant AI fields.A proven track record of impactful research publications in reputable scientific journals and conferences.Experience of supervising research projects.Experience in teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. The DEEC/UC also seeks to increase the number of women in areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. Expectations :To conduct research that impacts the future of Robotics and AI.Foster novel collaborations and create new research and career opportunities.Publish high-quality scientific papers in Top-Teer Journals and Flagship conferences related to robotics and AI.Experience of work in or in collaboration with companies/industry.Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, delivering engaging and informative lectures, seminars, and practical sessions.Mentor and supervise postgraduate research students, fostering their intellectual growth and research capabilities.Undertake management and administrative tasks relevant to the role, ensuring efficient operation within the academic department.
Beneficiários
