Other relevant valences include familiarity with ethical considerations in AI research, such as bias mitigation, privacy protection, and algorithmic accountability.Suitable candidates are expected to conduct high-profile scientific research to advance the state of the art in the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and human-centred design, with a focus on promoting human-AI collaboration, responsible and human-compatible AI. The candidate should possess a unique blend of technical expertise, interdisciplinary collaboration skills, and a deep understanding of societal needs and values. The successful candidate is expected to lead and conduct cutting-edge research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and human-centred design; explore novel methodologies, techniques, and algorithms to develop AI systems that prioritise usability, accessibility, and inclusivity; design and develop AI systems and technologies with a focus on user-centric principles and human-computer interaction; incorporate human-centred design methodologies throughout the AI development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment; explore how AI solutions can assist the application of human-centred design methodologies; evaluate the usability, effectiveness, and impact of AI systems through user testing, surveys, and qualitative assessments; collaborate with researchers from diverse disciplines, including computer science, psychology, sociology, and design, to integrate human-centric perspectives into AI research; lead interdisciplinary research teams and foster a collaborative research environment conducive to innovation and knowledge exchange; ensure adherence to ethical guidelines and principles in all aspects of AI research and development; proactively address ethical considerations related to bias, fairness, transparency, accountability, and privacy in AI systems; translate research findings into practical solutions with tangible societal impact, particularly for marginalised and underserved communities; engage with stakeholders, including industry partners, government agencies, and community organisations, to promote the adoption of inclusive AI technologies.Candidates should have a strong publication record in top-tier conferences and journals, and some previous experience in writing grant proposals to secure funding for future research initiatives. They should be able to present research findings effectively in oral and written form and actively participate in international fora in the field, such as renowned conferences, high-tier workshops or thematic schools. The ECR will be expected to mentor and supervise MSc and eventually PhD students, in alignment with LASIGE’s core objectives of developing a scientific culture that promotes excellence, while maintaining a healthy research environment. Moreover, they will be responsible for teaching advanced courses in Human-AI Interaction, Ethics in Computing, Human-Computer Interaction, and previous teaching experience will be valued, in particular, experience in designing hands-on laboratory activities and seamlessly integrating novel scientific developments in both first and second-cycle curricula. The rapid advancement of AI technologies presents both opportunities and challenges for promoting inclusion and diversity. As AI systems become increasingly integrated into various aspects of our lives, it is essential to ensure that these technologies are designed and deployed in ways that are usable and responsible. By hiring dedicated human-centred AI researchers, we aim to: 1) Advance scientific knowledge in the field of human-centred AI; 2) Design and develop innovative AI solutions that address pressing societal needs; 3) Foster collaboration within LASIGE, FCUL, and external stakeholders to co-create AI technologies that reflect the values and priorities of marginalised communities; 4) Lead by example in promoting ethical AI practices and advocating for greater transparency and accountability in the development and deployment of AI technologies.
