A considerable number of the CEAUL research center members primarily work very successfully in applications related to various sciences such as medicine, bioinformatics, genetics, and environment. To take the scientific collaboration in these areas to a higher level, there is a strong need to engage an FCT-Tenure with sound theoretical features that will be able to assist the application-driven CEAUL members and help them to overcome their frailties in terms of methodological aspects. CEAUL is quite conscious of the need to augment the team with individuals capable of pursuing methodological research paths. This FCT-Tenure proposal is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing the scientific output of the CEAUL members in statistical journals and fostering innovation-driven motivation within the team. The development of novel research methodologies is crucial to rise the CEAUL to the level of international research groups that prime for their excellency.Novel methodologies needed to address various challenges require strong foundations in theoretical probability and statistics, and also a profound mathematical background. Specifically, a solid and vast knowledge of Calculus and Algebra is indispensable, alongside proficiency in probability theory. The candidate should be able to derive and substantiate theoretical results. The primary objective of this FCT-Tenure position is to recruit an individual with extensive pure probability aptitudes to spearhead the theoretical framework of novel methodologies, who is able to demonstrate their properties through rigorous proofs. These assets will be extremely important to overcome the theoretical innovation frailties of most of the research group members.Basically, the candidate to this FCT Tenure researcher position in Probability, Statistics and Stochastic Processes should: (1) be proficient in terms of probability theory and statistics and have a sound mathematical background. The candidate should also have sensitivity to applied problems. As such, a PhD in Statistics along with Applied Mathematics training at master level are mandatory requirements; (2) be able to develop fundamental research and consequently set the ground for creating a more methodological-driven subgroup in the CEAUL that would be able to increase the possibility of arising the interest of scientifically well prepared national and international students to pursue their PhD programs in FCUL/CEAUL. Ideally, these students would be supervised by integrated members of the CEAUL and co-supervised by members of other universities/research groups. That would certainly increase the visibility of the CEAUL/FCUL and their researchers.
