The candidates should hold a curriculum vitae that, from a scientific point of view, shows that they can contribute to strengthening research activity in at least one of the three areas mentioned above and, from a pedagogical point of view, shows that they can provide teaching at a high-quality standard, not only in the curricular units in the subarea of specialisation, but also in other subareas of Mathematics, at the doctoral and master levels as well as in bachelor courses. Transversality will be a highly valued characteristic in candidates. We expect them to have the ability to work across multiple subareas and connect with different research groups at national and internation institutions.The scientific profile of candidates should reflect an excellent publication record and other marks of recognition of the quality of their work, such as invited lectures or collaborators in the international scientific community. The candidate agenda must be aligned with the Mathematic Department´s strategic priorities and have the potential to create synergies with the research and teaching that is already being carried out, as well as opening important new paths. They must have experience in seeking and obtaining competitive funding for research and managing research, as well as supervising students at postgraduate level and students mentoring.The Department of Mathematics has a long tradition of high-quality teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate degrees, producing experts with solid mathematical training, allowing them to work in different sectors, from secondary education to industry, from services to academia. In recent decades, the department has added to the classical Mathematics bachelor’s degree several master´s and doctorate degrees and a new BSc in Applied Mathematics; it has international PhD programme with foreign Institutions (Universities from Galiza, North Spain) with training profiles of different types, ranging from fundamental classical areas to more applied modern ones.The three proposed subareas became strongly interconnected with many applications of Mathematics, particularly relevant in the context of FCUP´s strong areas, including statistics, data science, cryptography, dynamical systems, machine learning and theoretical physics.The recruitment subareas, all undeniable importance within the area of Mathematics, were identified as those in which the department is most lacking in human resources caused by several retirements in recent years and for strengthening research emerging areas.
