The proposed position aims to leverage the strong research track that IST, bridging the scientific areas of Graphics and Interaction (Department of Computer Science and Engineering - DEI) and Architecture (Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment - DECivil) and LARSyS, the associate laboratory in ecosystemic approaches to architectural practice that embodies the values of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) in connecting our living spaces to the Green Deal bridging between the world of science and technology, art and culture. Going back to the 60s, this area matured in the last 30 years with a growing emphasis on the need to promote consultation and co-design strategies, including with and through digital technologies. This includes a profound engagement with design, building programming, construction, material regulation, and the oversight of the built environment´s development, execution, and maintenance. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in interdisciplinary projects in integrating digital twins, interdisciplinary collaboration, ecological analysis, and participatory processes into architectural scholarship and practice. A keen interest in expanding traditional architectural fields into cultural and media studies, co-design urban and ecological mapping and planning, is essential. This position both leverages experience and harnesses the new capacities offered through the EU lighthouse project Bauhaus of the Seas , benefiting from the overall research environment in these fields provided by LARSyS. The prospective employee should be capable of harnessing the capacities, developing new tools and methods, and applying them in real-world situations in collaboration with the private sector and public administration actors, including contributing to the development and evaluation of public policies such as the NEB and the Green Deal.This position will also strengthen the scientific and teaching capacity of DEI and DECivil, consolidating the research affirmation of IST in this field and supporting the ongoing working and foreseen expansion of IST 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cycle programs in Architecture, Computer Science and Engineering, Environment and Sustainability and the offers of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) courses.Talented researchers have been previously identified through a systematic scouting process and will also be ensured through the wide dissemination of the call for the position.The creation of this position will harness the development of a new area of research in line with NEB values, bridging and strengthening existing knowledge and scholarship at IST through interdisciplinary approaches that are collaborative and work in real-world contexts. The research projects Bauhaus of the Seas Sails and TIDALArtS  are examples of how IST can benefit from developing new skills and supporting an emerging area of research, which will be further supported by the opening of this position.
