Job description          The Assistant Professor must accomplish (while being committed with ethical practices):a. Promote and develop teaching-research activities.On the research front, this Assistant Professor is expected to develop research that addresses real-world complexities through multimethodologies that explicitly deal with diverse stakeholders, multiple objectives, and various sources of uncertainty, and which have special relevance for the health context. He/she will foster research within the DECISING group, developing and bringing competitive funding for research projects.Within the teaching sphere, the new Professor is anticipated to play a pivotal role by instructing existing Decision Engineering curricular units – currently in the areas of decision and risk analysis, project management, and health decision-making - and spearheading new initiatives and courses on risk and facilitated decision analysis across the BSc, MSc, and PhD levels. The emphasis is placed on introducing innovative concepts, methodologies, and applications in teaching. He/she is expected to contribute to the supervision of MSc and PhD theses, infuse new teaching approaches (e.g. interactive videos, MOOC modules, participatory approaches and other cutting-edge technologies), and actively engage in the decision sciences group´s educational endeavors.b. Foster industry Interaction . The Assistant Professor is expected to foster industry collaborations (e.g. organizing specialized short courses in Técnico+) and develop research-oriented consultancy.c. Publishing and Dissemination .  He/she is supposed to publish and disseminate his activity in top peer reviewed journals in the areas of risk analysis, decision analysis, and in health care management science. Scientific profile          The following profile is set for this Assistant Professor:a. Educational background : a PhD in engineering and management, management science or in a related area.b. Research experience : a minimum of three years´ core research experience in risk and facilitated decision analysis, with applications to health settings. Experience should include the development and use of decision support tools and software in the area, including for multicriteria evaluation (e.g. MACBETH), for risk evaluation (e.g. NETICA, Precision Tree, @Risk), for problem structuring methods (e.g. Decision Explorer) and for behavioural and participatory research (e.g. WELPHI).c. Teaching experience : some teaching and supervising experience related to Risk Analysis, Decision Analysis, and/or Health Systems.d. Additional requirements : evidence of industry collaboration, research project participation, science outreach, and contributions to the academic community in the areas of risk and facilitated decision analysis further strengthen the selection criteria. The assistant professor´s expertise has a high potential to foster applied research with industry, and to attract research and consultancy funding at the national and international levels.This appointment builds upon the tradition of IST, DEG and CEGIST, promoting diversity and fortifying the existing decision science group which misses expertise in some areas of risk and facilitated decision analysis, and cultivating future leadership of the group at the international level.The recruitment of this assistant professor is crucial for making substantial contributions to the diverse areas outlined by DEG and CEGIST in their strategic plans. Additionally, it enables placing human resources in DEG in an area with deficit of tenure tracked professors for delivering its educational responsibilities.To attract top-tier researchers, the recruitment process will be conducted on a national and international scale, following a transparent and merit-based selection approach.
