Sumário

The prospective employee will be a university professor and researcher. Such a person plays a multifaceted and pivotal role in the academic landscape, contributing significantly to the realms of education and knowledge creation. As educators, professors engage in the transfer of knowledge to the next generation, fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of their respective fields. They design and deliver lectures, mentor students, and assess their academic progress, all while inspiring a passion for learning.Simultaneously, professors are avid researchers who push the boundaries of knowledge in their chosen disciplines. Through rigorous investigation, experimentation, and analysis, they seek to uncover new insights, challenge existing paradigms, and contribute to the academic canon. Research findings are often disseminated through publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and collaborations with other experts in the field. The dual role of professor and researcher enables them to bring the latest advancements and discoveries directly into the classroom, enriching the educational experience for students and fostering an environment of intellectual curiosity.Beyond the classroom and research endeavors, professors may also engage in community outreach, professional service, and interdisciplinary collaborations, further enriching the academic ecosystem. Their influence extends beyond the university campus, shaping the future of their disciplines and contributing to the advancement of society as a whole. Overall, the job of a university professor and researcher is a dynamic and intellectually fulfilling endeavor that combines teaching, research, and service to make enduring contributions to academia and the broader world.In summary, the major tasks to be assigned to the prospective employee are: -    To prepare and teach undergraduate and graduate courses; -    To perform top-level scientific research in the scientific area of the position.The decision to hire an assistant professor for DEI and researcher for INESC-ID specializing in Information Systems (IS) is driven by the recognition of the pivotal role this scientific area plays in conceiving, creating, operating, and maintaining complex information systems. IS focuses on the fundamentals of dealing with high complexity, whether arising from characteristics of the data, the processes involved, or the diverse communities of use. This complexity is particularly evident in business organizations, which are viewed as complex socio-technical systems encompassing information systems.The professor in IS engages in research and teaching activities that span Systems Engineering and Management as well as focused domains within Data Engineering. Systems Engineering and Management cover essential aspects such as Requirements Engineering, Systems Analysis and Design, Conceptual Modeling, Project Management, and Enterprise Architecture. These domains are critical for understanding and navigating the intricacies of developing and managing information systems, ensuring that students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to address the challenges of complex socio-technical environments.In Data Engineering, the professor in IS delves into domains like data collection, transport, storage, and processing. This includes a focus on Data Lifecycle Management, Databases, Data Science and Engineering, Information Retrieval, Information Security, and Business Process Management. Given the increasing importance of data in modern organizations, these areas are at the forefront of addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by the ever-expanding volumes of information.The interdisciplinary nature of IS reflects its engagement with both technical and socio-technical aspects, emphasizing the integration of technology with organizational processes and structures. The hiring of a professor in IS ensures that students receive a holistic education that combines technical proficiency with an understanding of the broader organizational context.As information systems continue to evolve and play a central role in the functioning of organizations, the expertise of a professor/researcher in IS becomes crucial for preparing students to design, manage, and optimize these systems effectively. The department already has several tenured professors in the area, but by investing in this scientific area, the university is positioned to further contribute to advancements in both the theory and practice of information systems, fostering a new generation of professionals capable of addressing the complexities inherent in today´s interconnected and data-driven world.

  • Beneficiários Diretos são aqueles cujos financiamento e projetos a executar constam do Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência negociado e aprovado pela União Europeia;
