Demonstrating excellence in urban mobility lately, with a focus on active modes and emerging technologies in transportation planning, Técnico is committed to addressing contemporary challenges in urban mobility.The historical influence of post-war motorization trends on city development has significantly shaped urban well-being. Continuous research is needed to address evolving transportation and urban mobility needs, committing also with the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals. Effective policies and governance structures are essential for sustainable and inclusive transport systems. Urban mobility challenges require collaborative teaching programs to prepare professionals for multifaceted challenges.Recognizing the urgency of adopting new practices in transport system planning, DECivil strives to be at the forefront of addressing urban mobility challenges. Teaching and researching urban mobility are imperative, considering critical factors that impact current and future urban environments.Unprecedented urban expansion necessitates innovative solutions for accessibility, emphasizing the crucial role of sustainable mobility. The rise of electric and autonomous vehicles demands expertise in cutting-edge technologies. Urban mobility is pivotal for social equity, influencing access to essential services, while well-designed transport systems contribute to economic competitiveness.Within DECivil, ACSUTA´s Transport Discipline Group leads in research and teaching. However, strengthening research and teaching capacity is crucial for a sustainable, efficient and effective influence on students and future researchers in civil engineering, promoting sustainability in transport planning and operation related to urban mobility.The ideal candidate for this position should exhibit a passion for advancing knowledge in transportation, specifically in urban mobility, active modes, and public transportation. A commitment to excellence in teaching and research, coupled with a forward-thinking approach to urban mobility challenges and opportunities, is essential to contribute to the institution´s academic and service mission. Job Description: The Assistant Professor in Systems, Urban Planning, Transportation and Environment, specializing in Urban Mobility, Active Modes, and Public Transportation, entails various responsibilities:Research: Conduct cutting-edge research in urban mobility, active modes, and public transportation. Publish in reputable journals, present at conferences, and collaborate with peers and stakeholders. Grant Acquisition: Pursue external funding opportunities, (e.g. EIT Urban Mobility); Develop competitive grant proposals.Service and Outreach: Engage in academic and professional service activities, contribute to curriculum development, and establish connections with local communities.Collaboration: Foster collaboration with departments, research institutions, and industry partners.Teaching: Develop and teach courses on transportation planning, urban mobility, and active modes, potentially contributing to the Ph.D. Program in Transportation Systems; Mentor and supervise students in research projects, theses, and dissertations. Scientific Profile: The ideal candidate, holding a Ph.D. in Transportation Systems, should possess:Research Expertise: Strong background in urban mobility, transportation planning, and active modes; Expertise in relevant research methodologies, with preference given to advanced skills in transport demand modeling and spatial analysis.Publication Record: High-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals, representing a promising research agenda over the last five years.Grant Writing Skills: Proven ability to secure external research funding.Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Willingness and capacity for interdisciplinary collaboration.Industry Engagement: Experience or interest in engaging with industry partners to apply research findings.Communication Skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills, especially for lecturing.The success of attracting talented researchers is significantly bolstered by DECivil formidable assets, including the established legacy and excellence of the Transport group at Técnico.
