Rationale for the ICS-ULisboa Strategic Planning : ICS-ULisboa has been at the forefront of research on empires, colonialism and post-colonialism in the Lusophone world. ICS-ULisboa historical anthropology seeks a critical and comparative understanding of the colonial past and of how it imprints on contemporary Lusophone societies. Portuguese imperial histories are approached both in relation to other colonial and post-colonial contexts, to indigenous histories, to their long duration, and to broader international theory and historiography. At ICS-ULisboa, work on these topics has became distinctive for cross-disciplinary approaches that combine solid knowledge of history and social theory, with extensive empirical work based on archival and fieldwork methodologies. As a result, for more than two decades ICS-ULisboa has been a driving force of the historical anthropology of Portuguese colonialism and post-colonialism. Its historians and anthropologists have been at the head of many funded-projects on colonial and post-colonial topics, authoring numerous books and journal articles of substantial impact in the field. In addition, this is an area that connects profoundly with postgraduate studies at ICS. Colonial and post-colonial history, as well as combined historical and anthropological methods have been central subjects in the ICS-ULisboa PhD Programs in History and Anthropology.The recruitment of this Assistant Researcher will be fundamental for reinforcing and maintaining continuity in this key area at ICS-ULisboa, thus consolidating its profile as an international hub for historical and anthropological research on Lusophone colonial legacies. The activities to be developed by the Assistant Researcher will therefore be key to the colonial legacies dimension of the ICS-ULisboa Thematic Line on Memory and Legacies. In addition, it will play a crucial role in the development and curatorship of the ICS-ULisboa Archival Infrastructure, as well as in fostering the multi-methodological and interdisciplinary orientation of both the ICS-ULisboa Postgraduate Studies and the planned ICS ERA Chair in Imagination. This profile will thus complement the positions to be created in Modern & Contemporary History, by reinforcing the cross-disciplinary expertise that is distinctive of historical research at ICS-ULisboa. Required Scientific Profile : In addition to a demonstrated interest in the topic, the PhD researcher to be recruited should have: a)  PhD in History or Anthropology; b) a relevant CV in the field of Historical Anthropology, with particular emphasis on internationalization (e.g. international collaborations and networks, a repertoire of publications, experience in project-based research and outreach activities); c) solid methodological training in both archive- and field-based ethnographic methodologies, with relevant fieldwork as well as archival research experience; d) proven experience in initiating innovative, cutting-edge, research strands and topics; e) proven experience in teaching post-graduate courses; f) experience in applying to highly competitive funding, both at an international and national levels; g) preferable experience in archival and/or collections curatorship, digital humanities, and in the development of archive-based outreach tools.??????? Tasks to be assigned: The Assistant Researcher to be recruited will carry out activities in the field of historical anthropology to generate innovative and impactful knowledge about colonial and post-colonial histories and their active legacies in present-day memories, archives, and collections with special, though not exclusive, focus on Lusophone settings. The Researcher will play an important role in contributing to historical studies of colonial heritage, both by producing ground-breaking research, and by bolstering critical memories of colonial pasts.These activities include: a) designing research projects for national and international calls; b) coordinating research teams and leading the implementation of projects in research and scientific and technological development in this field; c) supervising masters and PhD students;  d) conducting training activities in scientific research methods and development in this field; e) proposing outreach interventions based on results obtained in research projects conducted in this scientific domain; f)  contributing to academic management and archival curatorship at the ICS-ULisboa.
