The researcher is expected to conduct research on how scientific knowledge is produced, disseminated, and interpreted within society. This includes research into organizational structures, norms, and practices within scientific institutions, including universities, research labs, companies, and scientific societies; as well as to examine how scientific knowledge is created, validated, and disseminated, and the factors influencing these processes. It could also include research into how social, cultural, political, and economic factors shape the development and acceptance of scientific theories and ideas. Different methodological capabilities are expected: bibliometric tools and methodologies to assess research productivity, citation patterns, and collaboration networks within the scientific community; collection and analyzes of data to identify patterns, trends, and social dynamics within the scientific community. It is expected that the researcher will collaborate with researchers from diverse disciplines, including information science, and science communication, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted aspects of science and metrics and explore the policy implications of research findings, providing insights into how policymakers can support the scientific and innovation system. The researcher will be expected to design and carry out research projects and studies, publish and disseminate results and analyses, both nationally and internationally, establish partnerships and institutional collaborations, supervise theses and dissertations, and collaborate in teaching activities within the established limits for researchers in masters’ and PhD programmes or in specialised curricular units of 1st cycle courses. The researcher should have international research experience of coordination of projects and studies in the thematic fields of science and technology studies. Experience articulating research in these areas with public policy and collaborative studies with public institutions is also relevant. It is expected the researcher will align their activities within the scope of CIES research group – Education and Science - and contribute to the development of the field and the group. The researcher is also expected to align their research activities with the Thematic Line 5 on the Digital Transformation of the SocioDigital Lab for Public Policy. In summary, alignment of research interests should be with the goals of the Research Unit (https://cies.iscte-iul.pt/) and of the SocioDigital Lab for Public Policy (https://sociodigitallab.iscte-iul.pt/).
