Hiring of an Assistant Professor to contribute to the Psychology department´s and research unit’s mission of contributing knowledge on advanced research methods, statistical analysis, and data mining techniques in Social Sciences, specifically Psychology (MAP).It is expected that the successful candidate:develops research methodologies and experimental designs tailored to specific research questions or hypotheses. This includes determining appropriate data collection methods, sample size determination, and statistical techniques (Research Design) .Oversees data collection processes, ensuring data integrity, reliability, and ethical compliance. This may involve designing surveys, experiments, or observational studies and coordinating data collection efforts with research collaborators (Data Collection) .Conducts advanced statistical analyses and data mining techniques to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets using supervised and unsupervised models. Perform exploratory data analysis, inferential statistics, regression modelling, classification, clustering, and time series analysis as necessary. It should also consider the specificities in the psychology field, where psychometrics covers a vital data analysis component, and measuring latent variables requires knowledge of structural equation modelling and item response theory ( Data Analysis) .Interprets research findings and communicate results through written reports, presentations, and visualizations following the APA standards. Collaborates with colleagues to disseminate findings in academic publications and conference presentations ( Interpretation and Reporting) .Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams of researchers, including scientists, clinicians, engineers, and social scientists, to address complex research questions and integrate diverse perspectives into research projects ( Collaboration).Stays abreast of advancements in research methods, statistical techniques, and data analysis tools. Engages in continuous learning and professional development activities to enhance skills and expertise in relevant areas ( Professional Development) . Scientific Profile: The candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Psychology and post-graduation in Advance Methods master course. Further requirements are: (a) experience as principal investigator of competitive funded research projects; (b) strong background in research methods, statistics, data analysis, and data mining, focusing on Social Sciences; (c) proficiency in statistical software (e.g., JAMOVI, JASP, SPSS or STATA) and programming languages commonly used in data analysis (e.g., R, Python); (d) understand research design principles, sampling techniques, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, machine learning algorithms, and data visualization methods; (e) solid knowledge of research methods and statistical analysis for advancing knowledge on research methodologies; (f) solid knowledge of research methods and statistical analysis applied to the study of complex societal challenges in healthcare, social sciences, environmental science and beyond Rationale: In recent years, there has been an increasing relevance of data analysts and data scientist roles in industry and academic fields. Academia is failing to capture these relevant profiles for excellence in research development. By investing in expertise in research methods, statistics, data analysis, and data mining, institutions can enhance their research capabilities, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and make meaningful contributions to scientific discovery and innovation. The proposed position profile attempts to fulfil this lack and involves conducting research using advanced research methods, statistical analysis, and data mining techniques in Social Sciences, specifically Psychology. They will enable the Institution to conduct high-quality research, publish impactful findings, attract external funding, contribute to advanced research on Psychology through the implementation of new methods and resources, and ultimately contribute to advancing knowledge and improving society. The need to hire for this scientific area stems from the increasing reliance on data-driven decision-making across various industries and academic disciplines. In today´s era of big data, there is a growing demand for professionals who can effectively collect, analyze, and interpret large datasets to generate actionable insights, and take researche on Psychology to expand its horizons.
