JOB DESCRIPTION AND SCIENTIFIC PROFILE: The prospective employee will spearhead an extensive research and pedagogic project grounded in Molecular Genetics, specifically applied to the realm of Psychiatry and Mental Health. Unraveling the molecular drivers of psychiatric disorders is crucial for advancing novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in this field. To achieve this goal, the candidate should possess a robust background in molecular biology, inflammation, and RNA biology. A deep understanding of the mechanisms governing gene regulation, particularly in the context of depression, through human-based studies, in vivo, and in vitro approaches is integral to this transdisciplinary endeavor. The prospective employee should have a background in Health Sciences and demonstrate expertise in “omics” tools (e.g. transcriptomics; proteomics) and RNA-based mechanisms, and have international experience. A demonstrated commitment to entrepreneurship and a strong emphasis on valuing innovation is also essential. These qualities will contribute to the successful clinical translation of research findings and advancements in the treatment of Psychiatric disorders.The prospective employee will undertake both research and teaching tasks, specifically:1) Research activities- Coordination of research teams;- Integrating international networks;- Attracting competitive national and international funding;- Contributing to FMUP and RISE dissemination policy;- Mentoring international students.2) Teaching activities- Lecturer in Integrated Master´s Degree in Medicine and in Doctoral Programs, including in the Neurosciences Doctoral Program.- Propose new pedagogic units, optional disciplines, and innovative educational training modules.RATIONALE: Psychiatric diseases exhibit high heterogeneity, underscoring the importance of understanding their molecular drivers for effective clinical translation, ultimately enhancing diagnosis and therapy. The prospective candidate will deliver lectures encompassing the intersection of molecular biology and psychiatric disorders. Bridging the realms of basic and fundamental sciences is crucial for comprehending complex conditions, particularly the neuro-inflammatory link. Students will benefit from exposure to the most advanced disease diagnosis and therapy technologies, including transcriptional and bioinformatics tools. Our aim is to position the faculty at the forefront of innovation in RNA and molecular-based strategies for psychiatric disease. This interdisciplinary approach enables the establishment of novel research avenues, advancing our understanding of the underlying mechanisms in psychiatric diseases and their connection with inflammatory diseases.A tenure position will, therefore, be of utmost relevance to ensure continuity and commitment to ongoing research projects, facilitating the development of a comprehensive clinical research agenda and providing the stability needed to attract and retain top-tier researchers. Moreover, this tenure position will support establishing and maintaining long-term collaborations, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to psychiatry research and encouraging partnerships with other institutions. By providing mentorship and training to students, postdocs, and junior faculty, this hiring will also contribute to the continuity and growth of the academic community.
