Job Description : The prospective employee will hold the position of Assistant Professor at the Surgery and Physiology Department, Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, Portugal. This role entails a dual focus on teaching activities in Physiology, echocardiography, and pediatric cardiology, as well as conducting research in the field of Cardiovascular Sciences. Teaching Tasks : The candidate will deliver lectures, seminars, and practical sessions in Physiology to undergraduate and postgraduate students, with a special emphasis on integrating principles of Cardiovascular Imaging and Pediatric Cardiology into the curriculum. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to the development of course materials, assessment tools, and educational resources. Moreover, the candidate will supervise student research projects, offering guidance and mentorship in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing. Research Tasks : In addition to teaching responsibilities, the candidate will play a role in advancing research within Associate Laboratory RISE – Health Research Network. The primary focus will be on Cardiovascular Imaging and Pediatric Cardiology, with an emphasis on studying the cardiovascular health of both the maternal and pediatric populations. This involves exploring innovative imaging modalities and investigating the relationship between maternal health factors and fetal cardiovascular outcomes. The candidate will lead and collaborate on cutting-edge research projects, designing rigorous experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Furthermore, the candidate will actively seek external funding opportunities to sustain research initiatives and foster collaborations with national and international research institutions. Scientific Profile : The candidate holds a medical doctor degree with a specialization in Pediatric Cardiology and has obtained a Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Science. With extensive experience in teaching at the university level - initially as an Assistant in 2012, and as an Associate Professor in 2019 - particularly in Physiology, echocardiography, and pediatric Cardiology, the candidate has demonstrated a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and a successful track record of grant acquisition. Additionally, the candidate possesses excellent communication skills, effective teamwork abilities, and a genuine passion for advancing medical education and research in Cardiovascular Sciences.The rationale for hiring a candidate for this position lies in the strategic imperative to bolster the academic and research capacities within the Surgery and Physiology Department, Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto.
