Sumário

This position aims at developing cutting-edge research in the field of Software engineering and Information systems to support various engineering domains. The work will include a strong focus on data life cycle and the application of Business Intelligence and Information systems methodologies for its exploitation, integrated in Open and FAIR data initiatives. The candidate will be integrated in a collaborative team and will be responsible for the development of innovative techniques to ensure the reliability, efficiency and effectiveness of software architectures and information systems. He/she will lead the research to enhance, share and integrate large amounts of data (Big Data) obtained from computational models and retrieved from the monitoring systems into Information systems for tailored applications (Early warning systems, asset management, climate adaptation,...) and/or datalakes from international data sharing initiatives (Digital Twins, DestinationEarth,...). The candidate will also focus on advancing techniques for data life cycle management, ensuring that data is effectively captured, stored, processed, and utilized throughout its lifecycle.The successful candidate will be responsible for exploring state-of-the-art techniques in data analytics and business intelligence to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets. This includes developing and implementing data processing pipelines, machine learning algorithms, and statistical models to analyze large-scale data sets and support decision-making processes. The candidate will also work on ensuring FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) compliance of data and metadata in the creation of new datalakes or converting existing systems for interoperability and open sharing assets.The outcomes of the research will be applied to the LNEC’s research areas to address multiple societal needs, from national regulatory missions (such as decision making in the scope of Large dams monitoring and control) to initiatives in support of people, assets and environment protection (e.g. prediction and early warning systems for natural and built assets including ports, coasts, tunnels and  bridges). This research will also contribute to projects in the area of the Digital Twins of the Earth (DestinE, EU DTO) and industry/built environment Digital Twins. This research will then be used to create tailored information systems devoted to LNEC’s needs, dully created through co-creation mechanisms with end-users.Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams will be essential to reach the desired goals. The candidate will collaborate closely with both LNEC’s researchers and other researchers, taking advantage of the multiple networks and projects already in place at LNEC, to address common challenges and develop innovative solutions. This collaborative approach will enhance the quality and relevance of research and will also foster knowledge exchange and facilitate the translation of research findings into practical applications. Actively seeking new research opportunities will also be encouraged. Finally, the candidate is expected to do presentations at conferences and publications in peer-reviewed journals.The candidate will also have a mission to share his/her work through the development of different level training courses, from basic to advanced, in business intelligence/data analytics/FAIR methods/Information systems to promote the widespread use of the state of the art techniques and to promote the interconnections between the various researchers.This position looks for candidates with a strong background in software engineering, data science, data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field, with degrees in computer science, information and data science, or selected engineering areas. Strong programming skills and the experience of successfully implementing data models is also needed. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, or frameworks including .NET is essential, along with experience working with large-scale datasets and machine learning frameworks. The quality of the past research and the publication record will be differentiating factors along with experience in working/developing research in the scope of multidisciplinary teams.This position aims at reinforcing the Information Technology Division of LNEC in the area of Information systems and data analytics. Currently the division has a comprehensive team of computer scientists working in adjacent areas such as applied computing, AI models, data fusion, reliable and quality-dependent systems. By fostering collaboration and expertise-sharing, the goal is to leverage emerging technologies and data-driven approaches to address complex challenges in LNEC’s fields. This initiative aligns with LNEC´s mission to conduct impactful research with tangible societal benefits, contributing to innovation and sustainable development efforts in Portugal and beyond.

  • Beneficiários Diretos são aqueles cujos financiamento e projetos a executar constam do Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência negociado e aprovado pela União Europeia;
