The European Commission supports Citizen Science as a way for citizens to "make significant contributions and be recognized as valid European producers of scientific knowledge." UICISA:E/ESEnfC believes that having a researcher focused on citizen involvement in research and science communication is crucial for fostering two-way interaction between researchers and society, as well as effectively integrating Citizen Science into the institution´s research agenda. The researcher is responsible for assisting in research and development activities related to citizen involvement approaches and models based on the principles of Citizen Science. This promotes direct and active public involvement in health research projects. The researcher is expected to carry out all other scientific and technical activities within the scope of UICISA:E/ESEnfC´s mission. This includes participating in the conception, development, and execution of research projects focusing and/or using the citizen involvement approach as well as guiding the work carried out within the projects under their responsibility. This task involves providing guidance and mentorship for projects that involve citizens. The goal is to make R&D activities more inclusive and participatory. Key tasks include securing funding to sustain these activities, developing participatory research protocols, managing citizen science projects, analyzing data with a focus on results applicable and impactful to society, and effectively communicating research findings to a wide range of audiences. The candidate can identify opportunities for improvement and optimization by closely monitoring ongoing projects. This will contribute to the continuous improvement of research practices and the expansion of project impact. Additionally, the candidate can facilitate the creation and strengthening of collaborative networks, promoting the exchange of knowledge and cooperation among different stakeholders. This will enhance the effectiveness and scope of ongoing projects. The researcher’s ability to assess and demonstrate the impact of their research on society will be a key aspect of their role. Previous experience in citizen science projects and a track record of publications in related areas will be considered important differentiators for selection. The researcher must work efficiently with a variety of stakeholders, ranging from academics to members of the lay community, ensuring an inclusive and democratic approach to the research process. The candidate will be responsible for developing training activities in research methodology and development, as well as guiding and participating in institution training programs. They will also play a key role in training other researchers on citizen involvement protocols and approaches, facilitating their integration into the institution´s research projects. This involves conducting training programs, workshops, and seminars, as well as providing practical support to team members in their projects. The goal is to ensure that a collaborative and participatory approach is deeply ingrained in UICISA:E/ESEnfC´s research culture. This guidance and mentorship will reinforce the institution´s commitment to responsible and engaging research, closely aligning with the needs and expectations of the community.Additionally, the position involves monitoring the research conducted by research fellows, research interns, and research assistants, as well as participating in their training. Therefore, it is essential to have a strong scientific background, with demonstrated experience in participatory methodologies, and a commitment to ethics, transparency, and social responsibility in order to establish trust and promote truly inclusive and impactful research. The required expertise for this position includes experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, effective science communication skills, and experience working with diverse communities. Project management skills, including planning, execution, and evaluation, are necessary. A deep understanding of the ethical and legal issues associated with research involving citizens is also required.
