The Department of Informatics of the University of Minho (DIUM) is seeking to hire a PhD researcher and professor for a permanent position in the field of field of Logic and Formal Methods, with a focus on rigorous techniques for software design, development, verification, and validation. The successful candidate will join the High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab), a research unit of the INESCTEC associate laboratory and the DIUM.The main tasks to be assigned to the prospective employee are:- To conduct high-quality research in the area of formal methods for software engineering, and publish the results in top-tier venues. - To participate in national and international research projects and collaborations with other institutions and industry partners. - To supervise and co-supervise master and doctoral students in the HASLab and the DIUM. - To teach and develop courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the DIUM, related to the scientific area of the position. - To contribute to the scientific and academic life of the HASLab, the DIUM, and the University of Minho.The scientific profile required is the following:- A PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, obtained less than 10 years ago. - A strong track record of publications in the area of Formal Methods for Software Engineering, in prestigious journals and conferences. - Experience in leading or participating in research projects and obtaining competitive funding. - Experience in teaching and supervising students at different levels of education. - Proficiency in English and Portuguese, both written and spoken.The rationale for the need to hire for the indicated scientific area is:- The HASLab is one of the leading research labs in Portugal and internationally in the fields of programming systems, formal methods, and software verification and security. It has a long history of excellence and innovation, as well as a strong impact on both academia and industry. The lab aims to expand its research capacity and scope, and to address new challenges and opportunities in the fast-evolving domain of high-assurance software engineering. - The DIUM is one of the oldest and most prestigious Computer Science and Engineering departments in Portugal. It offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, with high standards of quality and rigor. The DIUM is committed to fostering a dynamic and stimulating environment for teaching and research, and to attracting and retaining talented and motivated researchers and students. - The University of Minho is a public university with a strong reputation and a high level of internationalization. It is one of the top-ranked universities in Portugal and in Europe, according to several rankings and indicators. It has a strategic vision of promoting excellence, innovation and social responsibility in all its activities. - The FCT-Tenure program is a new funding instrument designed to promote the hiring of PhD researchers exclusively for permanent positions. It aims to create a more attractive and sustainable career horizon for researchers in the early stages of their careers, and to enhance the quality and impact of the research conducted in Portugal. The program is aligned with the objectives and priorities of the DIUM, the University of Minho, and the HASLab, and represents a unique opportunity to strengthen and consolidate their research potential and competitiveness.
