Job Description:We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor in Informatics, with focus on Computer and Software Engineering to join the Department of Informatics, School of Engineering, University of Minho (UMinho). The selected candidate will contribute to the development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, such as Imperative Programming, Parallel Programming, Requirements Engineering and Software Architecture, and Computer Architecture. The successful candidate will conduct innovative research, theoretical and practical lecturing, and actively participate in academic and research activities within the department.Tasks, Responsibilities:(a) Teaching and curriculum development:- deliver courses in the field of Software Engineering and Computer Engineering, such as Imperative Programming, Parallel Programming, Requirements Engineering and Software Architecture, and Computer Architecture; - develop course materials, including textbooks, exercises, and assessments; - develop or review course syllabi; - use innovative teaching methodologies, technologies, and practical examples to engage students and enhance their learning experience; - provide academic guidance to undergraduate students, as well as scientific supervision at postgraduate level.(b) Research- conduct high-impact research in areas related to software engineering and computer engineering; - publish research findings in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings; - pursue external funding opportunities through grant applications and collaborative research projects or initiatives; - collaborate with members from the Department of informatics and associated research units (Centro ALGORITMI and Haslab), industry partners, and other research organizations to address relevant research challenges in computer and software engineering.(c) Other Professional Activities- participate in departmental committees, faculty meetings, and other academic activities; - contribute to the academic and research community, e.g., serving on conference technical programme committees and editorial boards; - engage with industry partners, governmental and professional organizations to foster collaborations and promote technology transfer; - support undergraduate and postgraduate students through academic advising, career guidance, or extracurricular activities.Scientific Profile and Qualifications:- Ph.D. degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with focus on software engineering, or a related discipline; - theoretical and practical expertise in topics such as imperative programming, parallel programming, requirements engineering, software architecture, empirical software engineering, and computer architecture; - strong research track record in software engineering evidenced by publications in top-tier journals and conferences, as well as capacity to capture research funding; - proficiency in programming languages (e.g., assembly, C/C++, Java, Python), software engineering (requirements, design, testing, software process) and computer architecture (e.g., computer organisation, representation of information, instruction-set architecture, caches); - experience in teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level is valued, including the ability to engage students with different backgrounds in an inclusive learning environment; - excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to effectively deliver academic, technical and research concepts to students, colleagues, and external audience.Rationale for Hiring:The field of software engineering is undergoing rapid evolution. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing students for careers in software and computer engineering, while also conducting research in these topics.The interdisciplinary nature of software and computer engineering presents great opportunities for strengthen the collaboration across diverse academic disciplines within the university and industry sectors, contributing for the excellence in higher education and research, allowing to enhance the department staff and competencies.
