Job description: • Conduct Original Research: Lead and contribute to the development of novel algorithms, models, and techniques in the field of AI, with a focus on areas such as knowledge representation and reasoning, machine learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning. • Collaborate with Interdisciplinary Teams: Engage in collaborative projects with researchers from diverse disciplines, fostering an interdisciplinary approach to AI research. This may involve collaboration with experts in engineering, Law, neuroscience, and other relevant fields. • Publish in Leading Journals and Conferences: Disseminate research findings through high-impact publications in prestigious scientific journals and conferences. Actively contribute to the academic community by presenting research at conferences and workshops. • Grant Proposal Development: Contribute to the preparation and submission of research grant proposals to secure external funding for AI research projects. Actively seek opportunities for research funding from government agencies, industry partners, and other sources. • Supervise Graduate Students: Mentor and supervise graduate students involved in AI research projects. Provide guidance and support for their academic and research activities. • Stay Abreast of Emerging Trends: Keep abreast of the latest developments and trends in AI research and related fields. Contribute to the intellectual environment of the ALGORITMI Centre/LASI and Informatics Department through participation in seminars, workshops, and conferences.Scientific Profile:The ideal candidate will possess:• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field. • Proven Research Track Record: Demonstrated excellence in AI research, as evidenced by a good publication record in reputable journals and conferences. • Expertise in AI Subdomains: Expertise in one or more subdomains of AI, such as knowledge representation and reasoning, generative AI, machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, applied AI. • Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary research teams and contribute to collaborative projects. • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.Rational:The recruitment of an Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence is essential for several reasons:• Research Excellence: AI is a rapidly evolving field with significant societal implications. This will enable the pursuit of ambitious research projects and the attraction of top-tier talent. • Graduate Education: The supervision of graduate students is integral to our commitment to education and the development of the next generation of AI researchers. The Research Scientist will play a crucial role in mentoring and guiding students in their research endeavours. • Knowledge Dissemination: Active participation in conferences, workshops, and the publication of research findings in reputable journals will enhance the visibility of the University of Minho and the ALGORITMI Centre, solidifying our reputation as top AI researcher Centre.
