We are looking for a specialist in Metal Casting to take on the role of Assistant Professor, contribute to FEUP´s mission and help shape the future of teaching, research, and innovation in foundry.The Assistant Professor to be hired will have the following primary responsibilities:1. Collaborate in developing and delivering lectures, seminars and workshops on various aspects of metal casting, including theory, simulation, technologies and advanced methodologies;2. Guide undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research projects and practical applications in metal casting;3. Conduct pioneering research into metal casting processes, materials and technologies focusing on increasing efficiency, performance and sustainability;4. Collaborate with industry partners and research institutions to promote knowledge and technology transfer in industrial applications in the foundry area;5. Contribute to curriculum development and improvement of FEUP programs and accreditation processes;6. Promote lifelong training of graduates with initiatives in this area of knowledge.The Assistant Professor hired by FEUP must have a scientific profile that, ideally, meets the following qualifications:1. A PhD in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering, specializing in metal casting;2. Proven knowledge and research experience in various metal casting processes, such as sand casting, investment casting or die casting;3. Scientific publications, research grants and technology transfer activities in metal casting or related areas;4. Experience in teaching and mentoring students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;5. Communication skills, both written and verbal;6. Strong commitment to academic excellence, research integrity, ethics, diversity, equity and inclusion.?Metal casting is one of the leading technologies for manufacturing metallic components and an area in which the FEUP´s Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (DEMM) and the INEGI – Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering LAETA/INEGI have assumed a top position at the national level. Metal casting is also an area undergoing significant evolution that needs to respond to numerous challenges. The educational and scientific reinforcement of the teaching staff in metal casting will allow FEUP´s growth strategy to be leveraged in this area of knowledge and support the leading export sector of the national industry. In fact, Portuguese exports of metallurgy and metalworking reached a new record of 24,017 million euros in 2023, 4.3% more compared to 2022, which makes this sector one of the most dynamic in the national economy and represents around 30% of total Portuguese exports.
