The NOVA FCSH aims to enhance its academic team by appointing an Assistant Researcher in "Global & Transnational Studies," with specific expertise in "Global Governance and Power Structures," focusing particularly on the impact of interdependencies between different power technologies and infrastructures on the development of democratic and autocratic regimes. The selected candidate will develop their research agenda as an active member of IPRI-NOVA and will contribute to the development of NOVA FCSH strategic lines in "Society and Politics," "Memory and Heritage," and "Sustainable Territories and Environment." Key responsibilities: Design and conduct independent and interdisciplinary research on topics related to the expansion and contraction of the globalization process, focusing on areas such as migration and transnationalism, consolidation of democratic, hybrid, or autocratic regimes, and modernization of power technologies and remote governance; Generate and disseminate high-quality research findings, including in national and international peer-reviewed journals and international scientific publishers, adhering to best practices and guidelines for promoting scientific dissemination in open access; Contribute to a supportive, productive, and collaborative research community, contributing to the design and implementation of IPRI-NOVA research strategy, as well as NOVA FCSH strategic areas such as "Society and Politics," in complementarity to other strategic axes such as "Memory and Heritage" and "Sustainable Territories and Environment"; Design and submit applications for competitive research funding, promoting interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research teams and projects; Actively engage in establishing meaningful collaborative work with academic and non-academic institutions and promoting the social impact of academic research; Develop and teach Master and PhD courses, actively contributing to the renewal and ongoing improvement of curricula and educational practices at all levels; 7) Supervise post-graduate students, providing mentoring and guidance. Scientific Profile: 1) PhD degree in Global Studies or a related field; 2) Specific expertise in Political Science and/or International Relations (preferably), particularly in Historical and Sociological Comparativist methodologies, and in the study of Colonialism and Post-Colonialism from a Political Science perspective; 3) Recognized experience in designing and implementing research projects, including those with competitive national or external funding; 4) Relevant experience in team coordination within research projects and/or managerial roles; 5) Demonstrated outstanding research qualities through an established track record of relevant publications (i.e. peer-reviewed journals and other relevant outlets); 6) Proven experience in interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary teams, either as a project leader or team member; 7) Scholarly production of a transdisciplinary nature, integrating concepts, approaches, and methodologies from political science and global studies; 8) Strong focus on societal engagement and knowledge exchange with international academic institutions, relevant stakeholders, and society at large; 9) Experience in teaching at the Master and PhD levels in Political Science, International Relations or a related scientific discipline, along with evidence of a strong commitment to innovative pedagogical approaches, grounded in research-led teaching methodologies. Rationale: The proposed profile is critical for both the NOVA FCSH and IPRI-NOVA Scientific Research Strategies on two main contributions: Firstly, within NOVA FCSH Scientific project, the emphasis on "Society and Politics," "Memory and Heritage," and "Sustainable Territories and Environment" requires a deep understanding of global and transnational dynamics, particularly in relation to governance structures and power dynamics impact on social/political communities, with a multilevel and systemic approach. This profile, as proposed, will contribute to these strategic areas by studying how global forces shape societies, influence collective memory in political identity building, and its impact on sustainable development on a social and cultural perspective. Furthermore, IPRI-NOVA main areas of research – Comparative Politics and International Politics, with focus on Transnational and Global Challenges - needs expertise in understanding the intricate relationships between states, international institutions, and non-state actors in an increasingly interconnected world. This profile, drawing from Political Science and Global Studies, aligns with the institute´s mission to explore comparative political systems and analyze international relations dynamics. By focusing on topics such as migration and transnationalism, democratic or autocratic consolidation, and the impact of power technologies on governance, the will contributes directly to the institute´s research.
