NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities seeks to expand its academic staff by appointing an Assistant Researcher in Education, Society and Public Policies, with particular expertise on Education Systems and School Inequalities in Portugal. T. This position is being proposed as IFILNOVA Chair but targets the development of NOVA FCSH Autonomous Section on Education and a new research unit, EDUNOVA.ISPA. The selected candidate will develop their research agenda as an active member of Research Unit EDUNOVA.ISPA - Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Education and will contribute to the development of NOVA FCSH strategic line on Society and Politics.Key responsibilities1. Design and conduct independent research on topics related with development of education systems, school inequalities, school segregation and inclusion practices.2. Generate and disseminate high-quality research findings, including (but not exclusively) in international, peer-reviewed journals.3. Contribute to a supportive and productive research community, namely by supporting the design and implementation of Research Unit research strategy, as well as NOVA FCSH strategic area of Society and Politics.4. Design and submit applications for competitive research funding.5. Actively develop efforts to establish meaningful collaborative work with academic and non-academic institutions, setting the ground for future partnerships and social engagement.6. Develop and teach courses, including in their field of expertise, thus actively contributing to the renewal and ongoing improvement of curricula and educational practices at all levels.7. Supervise post-graduate students, by providing mentoring and advice.Scientific Profile1. PhD degree in any discipline of Social Sciences and Education Studies. Specific expertise on relations between education system and school inequalities and segregation.2. Recognized experience in the design and implementation of research projects, including projects with competitive and external funding.3. Relevant experience in team coordination, in the context of research projects and/or managerial responsibilities4. Outstanding research qualities demonstrated through an established track record of relevant publications, including peer-reviewed, international journals, books and other relevant outlets.5. Proven experience in interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary teams, either as project leader and/or team member6. Active member of relevant networks (academic and non-academic) in the research topics covered7. Strong focus on societal engagement and knowledge exchange with relevant stakeholders and society in general8. Experience in teaching and supervision, at Master and PhD level, and evidence of strong commitment to innovative pedagogical approaches, from a research-led teaching approach.The recruitment of an Assistant Researcher in Education, Society and Public Policies with a specialization on Education Systems and School Inequalities in Portugal is scientifically relevant for both NOVA FCSH and EDUNOVA.ISPA - Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Education. For NOVA FCSH, it becomes relevant to comply with one of the strategic domains of research and teaching as expressed in its first strategic axis Societies and Policies: contribution of scientific research to "society policies, namely those that address social inequalities, such as those focused on education, health, of housing, of gender...". In the case of EDUNOVA. ISPA for being at the intersection of two of its four lines of research: "educational systems and school organization" and "diversity and inclusion: curriculum, pedagogical practices and evaluation". School inequalities continue to be an indispensable field of research for the design of public policies aimed at promoting equity as well as for school practices, whether organizational or pedagogical, that promote inclusion. Portugal faces a new wave of immigrants who pose the challenge of their integration, especially that of school-age children and young people, for whom systematic, coherent and effective actions to achieve this goal are still to identify and evaluate.
