NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities (NOVA FCSH) seeks to expand its academic staff by appointing an Assistant Researcher in Modernism Studies, with particular expertise on Literary Modernism in Portuguese. The selected candidate will develop teaching and research as an active member of the Institute for Studies in Literature and Tradition (IELT) and the Department of Portuguese Studies, at NOVA FCSH.Key responsibilities 1. Design and conduct independent research on topics related with Modernism, with particular emphasis on Literary Modernism in Portuguese, but including the study of the literary, philosophic and artistic dimensions of the different modernist traditions. 2. Generate and disseminate high-quality research findings, including (but not exclusively) in international, peer-reviewed journals. 4. Design and submit applications for competitive research funding. 5. Actively develop efforts to establish meaningful collaborative work with academic and non-academic institutions, setting the ground for future partnerships and social engagement. 6. Develop and teach courses, including in the field of expertise, thus actively contributing to the renewal and ongoing improvement of curricula and educational practices at all levels. 7. Supervise post-graduate students, by providing mentoring and advice.Scientific Profile 1. PhD degree in Literary Studies. 2. Specific expertise on Modernism Studies, in particular on Literary Modernism in Portuguese. 3. Recognized experience of design, implementation or participation in research projects, including projects with competitive and external funding. 4. Outstanding research qualities demonstrated through an established track record of relevant publications, including peer-reviewed, international journals, books and other relevant outlets. 5. Proven experience in multidisciplinary teams, either as project leader or team member. 6. Active member of relevant networks (academic and non-academic) in the research topics covered. 7. Focus on societal engagement and knowledge exchange with society in general. 8. Experience in teaching and supervision, at Master and PhD level in particular, and evidence of strong commitment to innovative pedagogical approaches, from a research-led teaching approach.Rationale The recruitment of an Assistant Professor in Modernism Studies, with a particular emphasis on Literary Modernism in Portuguese, is scientifically relevant both for IELT and NOVA FCSH. Studies in Modernism have always played an important role in research conducted at IELT, in last years specially through the research projects modernismo.pt and Estranhar Pessoa, included in the strategic line “Literature: Tradition and Archive”. Recruiting an Assistant Researcher in this field would allow to (1) strengthen the research developed under the strategic line “Literature: Tradition and Archive”, at IELT, which combines a critical and an editorial approach on modernist works, (2) support IELT in achieving a broader international recognition in this field, namely through a renewal of critical literature and editorial work on authors of Portuguese and Brazilian Modernism, and establishing it further as a reference both at the national and international level; and (3) contribute to teaching and mentoring at the post-graduate level, thus shaping a new generation of young researchers in the field. Strategic cohesion axis NOVA FCSH: Arts and Humanities.
