Experience in teaching and/or supervision, at Master and eventually PhD level, and evidence of commitment to innovative pedagogical approaches, from a research-led teaching approach. Rationale The recruitment of an Assistant Researcher in Musicology with a solid background in Aesthetics and Performing Arts Studies, in particular Opera and Music Theatre, is of great scientific importance for both the CESEM Research Unit and NOVA FCSH. CESEM was founded as a centre dedicated to the study of Musical Aesthetics and the Sociology of Music and has a rich history in the study of opera and various forms of music theatre. However, there is a strong interest in developing the relatively new field of contemporary opera studies, focusing on issues such as the relationship between body, movement and voice, intermediality and the materialities of performance. The recruitment of an Assistant Researcher in this area would (1) strengthen the research being developed within the CESEM Study Group of Critical Theory and Communication and the Opera Studies thematic line, adding complementary skills to the current groups and enhancing the research output, (2) help the Research Units to strengthen international recognition in their field and to further establish themselves as a reference both nationally and internationally; (3) contribute to teaching and supervision at the postgraduate level, training a new generation of young researchers at CESEM; and (4) develop synergies with the Contemporary Music Study Group at CESEM and other Faculty Departments (like the Departments of Communication Sciences and Philosophy) dedicated to Aesthetics and the Performing Arts. This position is also crucial for the further development of the “Arts and Humanities” strategic line of NOVA FCSH, one of the five strategic areas that will support the teaching and research mission of NOVA FCSH until 2030.
