Highly motivated and experienced Assistant Researcher with a strong background in Mycology, particularly Filamentous fungi biochemistry, and bioinformatics, specializing in studying the metabolism of aromatics in fungi, with a specific focus on aspergilla. This role entails implementing innovative research projects to deepen our understanding of filamentous fungi metabolism, particularly of aromatics, to support the development of new products and/or processes relevant for health and sustainability. Detailed description of the tasks:Design and conduct advanced scientific research in Mycology, specifically focusing on the catabolism of aromatic hydrocarbons in filamentous fungi.Provide comprehensive support for the execution of projects within the host laboratory, including the execution of bioinformatic analyses and gene-editing of filamentous fungi.Setup new experimental approaches for small molecules identification through chromatography and spectrometry-based methods.Secure external funding.Coordination of national and international projects or work packages within projects.Contribute to the scientific community through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and participation in scientific committees.Play an active role in fostering international collaborations within the specific scientificarea.Supervision and training of researchers at the master´s, doctoral, and post-doctoral levels.Participation in the academic and management bodies of the institute.Participation in the life of the institute, namely in the activities of science outreach. Scientific profile required:Holders of a Doctorate degree in Biomedical Sciences.Post-doctoral experience in scientific research activities in Mycology, with emphasis on filamentous fungi.Proven experience with peer-reviewed scientific publications in the areas of Fungal Biology and Molecular Biology, with an emphasis on understanding the basic aspects of the metabolism of aromatic hydrocarbons in filamentous fungi.Proven track record as main author (first or corresponding) in peer reviewed scientific publications the field of mycology or life-sciences, at least five first authored papers in mycology, and three as corresponding authorExpertise in the cultivation of filamentous fungi and methodologies for the generation of gene deletion mutants.Experience in molecular biology techniques such as real-time quantitative PCR, cloning, production of recombinant proteins, and in quantitative proteomic analysis.Relevant experience in analytical chemistry techniques, namely LC and LC-MS.Experience in using bioinformatic tools for the analysis of next generation sequencing data, analysis of gene clusters, metagenomics, population genotyping, and comparative genomics.Experience in co-orientation and/or training of trainees, master´s and doctoral students.Good knowledge of the English language.Ability to integrate into multidisciplinary teams, demonstrating a critical mindset and effective communication skills.Immediate availability. Rationale:The recruitment of a motivated and experienced Assistant Researcher specializing in mycology, particularly Filamentous Fungi Biochemistry, and with additional expertise in bioinformatics, is vital for effectively managing current and future projects in applied and environmental mycology within the host laboratory. This appointment supports the lab head´s objectives and aligns with the major priority area of ITQB NOVA, notably MOSTMICRO, which focuses on developing novel therapeutic strategies and microbial factories for clean biotechnology. Given filamentous fungi´s remarkable catabolic capacity, widespread occurrence, and lifestyle, they offer exceptional potential for degrading complex aromatic structures and producing bioactive compounds. The appointed candidate will significantly contribute to advancing research on the genetic and metabolic potential of filamentous fungi as "factories" for new processes and the production of valuable molecules, addressing societal needs in Health and Sustainability.
Beneficiários
As duas tipologias são:
- Beneficiários Diretos são aqueles cujos financiamento e projetos a executar constam do Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência negociado e aprovado pela União Europeia;
