Position:Environmental and Ocean Literacy Assistant Researcher Job Description:We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Environmental and Ocean Literacy Researcher to join our dynamic team at NOVA FCT and MARE. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in the areas of Environmental and Ocean Literacy, with a specific focus on environmental education, ocean literacy, marine social sciences, and socio-cultural-environmental transformation. Key tasks include research in environmental socio-ecological management, focusing on the global problem of environmental governance, empowerment of local coastal communities, and promoting activities in science with and for society. The researcher will contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the development of innovative solutions in the field. Responsibilities:Design and execute experiments and research in environmental socio-ecological management.Investigate innovative ways of participatory governance models and stimulate the emergence of an Ocean literate society.Promote collaborative methodologies, multistakeholders engagement, conflict management techniques.Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate findings into broader research initiatives.Contribute to the publication of research findings in reputable scientific journals.Stay abreast of the latest developments in Environmental and Ocean Literacy and related fields. Scientific Profile:The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:Ph.D. in Education Sciences or a related field with a strong focus on environmental education, ocean literacy, marine social sciences, and socio-cultural-environmental transformation.Proven expertise in active participation related to environmental stakeholders engagement for enhancing empowerment and generate co-responsibility, and active citizenship promoting ocean literacy and creating sustainable and resilient communities of practice.Extensive knowledge of collaborative methodologies, civil society outreach and citizen science.Proficiency in promoting activities in science with and for society, by developing innovative ways of connecting science to society to make science more attractive (notably to young people and and coastal communities), increase society´s appetite for innovation, and open further research and socio innovation activities.Publication in reputable scientific journals, demonstrating the ability to contribute novel insights to the field.Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Rationale:The recruitment for this position aligns with the strategic goals of NOVA FCT and MARE to advance research excellence in Environmental and Ocean Literacy. The intersection of Governance, Citizen Science and Ocean Literacy represents a burgeoning area of scientific exploration with promising applications in communication and engagement strategies, favoring participatory approaches of a wide range of actors, and addressing topics such as novel institutional frameworks, territorial planning, ocean literacy and citizen science. The expertise of the successful candidate will significantly contribute to ongoing research projects and strengthen our institutional capabilities in these critical areas. Furthermore, the hire will enhance collaboration with external partners, foster academic-industry relationships, and contribute to the training of the next generation of researchers in Environmental and Ocean Literacy. This position reflects our commitment to innovation and scientific leadership, positioning NOVA FCT and MARE at the forefront of advancements in Environmental and Ocean Literacy and related disciplines.
