This position presents an opportunity for engaging in scientific research activities within the realm of Design, specifically focusing on Industrial Design and Product Development. It offers a chance to become part of IPCA’s School of Design and ID+ research team, fostering the advancement of our design research and programs. The role encompasses teaching and applied research in industrial design and product development, alongside avenues for R&D dissemination and impactful knowledge transfer in these domains. IPCA growing research and innovative programs, attracting scholars to contribute to its dynamic, design-centric academic community. Integration into IPCA’s School of Design and the ID+ research unit offers the selected researcher an opportunity to engage in the advancement of design innovation, thereby contributing to IPCA´s contribution towards research quality.The selected candidate will be immersed in a multifaceted role encompassing applied research and knowledge dissemination in the domains of industrial design and product development. Applied research activities in these topics will include specific tasks in the following domains:Ergonomics and Human FactorsSustainability and Environmental ImpactDesign for ManufacturingPrototyping and TestingMaterials ResearchEmbracing a collaborative ethos, the position invites applications from individuals who possess a deep-seated commitment to engaging in impactful research activities. ID+ IPCA’s hub is an interdisciplinary group that fosters and integrates a dynamic range of design practices and research and seeks an individual who pursues their praxis grounded in scientific, aesthetic, or social research, informed by critical perspectives in contemporary design.The scope of work incorporates project development and application writing; international networking with European University partners; graduate and undergraduate teaching and supervising; and outreach to society and professional communities. Moreover, active participation in departmental committees, coupled with a robust program of research and creative production, will serve as pillars of our commitment to scholarly excellence and innovation.At its core, the call for applicants for this position represents a commitment to fostering intellectual curiosity and scholarly excellence within the realm of design. It seeks individuals who can establish dialogues with regional stakeholders, including industrial players in key sectors of regional economy for industrial design, following up the relevant partnerships established by ID+ in previous applied research projects.The researcher will leverage in a pivotal manner the research traction of ID+ in these specific areas, including the bridging with other R&D research centers from IPCA, namely 2Ai - Applied Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and CICF – Research Centre for Accounting and Taxation. Considering the evolution of research at IPCA over the last five years, the institution is investing in a building that will bring together all these research centers, the B-CRIC – Barcelos Collaborative Research and Innovation Centre. This connection demands a restructured perspective that turns innovation into a process that demands proximity and cooperation, where dedicated Tenure Researchers will play a pivotal role. The relevance of this design culture-related actions is currently in strategic highlight in IPCA.Scientific profile:Possession of a Ph.D. in a pertinent design field, particularly within the realms of industrial design and product development.Demonstrated proficiency and professional background in the specified discipline, encompassing project management and the preparation of bids and applications.A robust track record of research and academic publications within the designated field.Ability to effectively collaborate with a multidisciplinary teams will be considered, given the interdisciplinary nature of ID+ and the research ecosystem promoted by B-CRIC.Established experience in research and development within higher education settings, inclusive of project management responsibilities and mentoring of student and junior researchers.Active involvement in professional networks and associations pertinent to the discipline.Proficiency in English is mandatory.IPCA is dedicated to ensuring that its programs, facilities, and employment opportunities are equally accessible to all individuals, irrespective of race, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation.
