Sumário

This position is intended for the exercise of scientific research activities in the scientific area of Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Biomedical Sciences in the I&D unit 2AI. The prospective employee will be involved in the development of 2AI’s strategic program, with research tasks in AI applied to health, but also scalable to industry. The scientific profile aims to enhance 2Ai´s excellence by developing advanced systems for diagnostic and intervention planning in medical settings leveraging multi-modal data sources, namely medical imaging. Specific domains of knowledge within the 2AI center will be emphasized, particularly in areas like feto-neonatal and pediatric health where ongoing work is being conducted and collaborations are established, contributing to the enrichment and fortification of the center´s current research and development. This role is focused on tasks including: 1) AI algorithm development - the prospective employee will play a key role not only in AI method development to aid clinical tasks, where innovative AI-based approaches should be pursued and implemented, but also in the creation of curated datasets. These datasets will encompass medical imaging, signals, and other relevant data. The focus will extend to ensure that datasets adhere to FAIR data principles (findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability). This commitment guarantees the optimal reutilization of data by 2AI researchers, a crucial aspect within the landscape of AI research.  2) Development of certified software - the candidate will engage in software development, integrating AI for advanced health systems, and prioritize certified medical software processes. The candidate will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, such as IEC-62304, and contribute to the documentation essential for certification processes. This commitment is crucial for the center´s goal of developing certified AI-based technologies, aligning with 2AI´s ambition for ISO 13485 certification. 3) User Interfaces and graphic interface development - design and implementation of intuitive and user-friendly graphical interfaces. These interfaces should meet the specific requirements of end-users and stakeholders and comply with the regulations governing medical software standards. 4) Project management, supervision, and funding acquisition - project management responsibilities, which include conception and execution of scientific research projects, project oversight and pursuit of funding opportunities. Responsibilities will also include supervision of undergraduate and master students and collaborate in the development of training activities in the scope of research and development methodology, considering the scientific capacity-building plane of 2AI-IPCA.To fulfill these tasks, a defined scientific profile will be searched. The candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a closely related field. The candidate must have proficiency in programming, coupled with background in image processing, machine learning, and algorithm development. The prospective employee must have experience in software development. Beyond academic qualifications and technical competencies, the candidate should exhibit a proven track record of research in the intersection of AI and healthcare, complemented by contributions through publications in journals and conferences associated with the field. The ability to collaborate effectively with medical professionals, engineers, and other stakeholders will be considered, along with the capacity to work within a multidisciplinary team.The need for this scientific profile is driven by the increasing demand for innovative solutions in healthcare and industry. As 2AI strives to contribute to advancements in these fields, by developing technically innovative solutions and services for health and industry, the tasks outlined require a dedicated individual with a strong scientific background to assist and execute research projects. Specifically, the generation of high-quality datasets, development of efficient algorithms, and design of user interfaces are critical components in ensuring the successful integration of AI into the medical or industry fields. Moreover, given that software serves as an integral component of medical device technologies, applying regulatory guidelines during the development of intelligent systems is imperative for the effective transition of research products to meet the healthcare standards and requirements. Furthermore, the prospective employee´s expertise and continuously enhanced knowledge will enable active participation in knowledge dissemination. The candidate will play a key role in sharing acquired knowledge and skills with other members and researchers within the center. This collaborative effort aims to feed the ongoing scientific training program within 2AI.

  • Beneficiários Diretos são aqueles cujos financiamento e projetos a executar constam do Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência negociado e aprovado pela União Europeia;
