Job description detailing the tasks.The main task of the research assistant will be the coordination of all research projects between the HMN and UAlg. This may include:-Leadership and Project Coordination: Planning and executing collaborative research projects between the UAlg and the wine industry to ensure the efficient achievement of research objectives and timelines.-Study of Indigenous Yeasts: Supervising research on indigenous wine yeasts, including isolation, identification, characterization, and analyzing antimicrobial properties against wine spoilage and human pathogens.-Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Facilitating collaboration between UAlg scientists and enologists for a multidisciplinary approach in understanding and effectively utilizing indigenous yeasts.-Data Analysis and Reporting: Overseeing research data analysis and drafting technical/scientific reports to document findings and conclusions.-Resource Acquisition: Identifying funding opportunities, including research and innovation support programs, to sustain and expand ongoing research.-Communication and Dissemination: Ensuring effective research findings communication to HMN partners and the academic community for knowledge dissemination and recognition.-Teaching and supervision of students: Supervising undergraduate and grad students, and teaching activities of 3-4 hours/week, potentially enhancing knowledge in Microbiology and basic health Medicine.In summary, the researcher plays a crucial role in coordinating and executing interdisciplinary research projects aimed at using indigenous vineyard yeasts as alternative antimicrobial agents, promoting a collaborative and innovative approach to addressing challenges related to natural organic wine production and the natural management of pathogenic microorganisms, promoting healthy life. Scientific profile required by the hiring institutions.We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Biomedical Research Scientist to join a team at a biomedical research center in partnership with a renowned wine company. The researcher should have a strong undergraduate background in Biotechnology Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, with postgraduate training focused on wine microbiome and fermentation processes.  Additionally, should have previous experience in coordinating R&DT Projects in co-promotion, led by the wine company in partnership with other institutions and the UAlg, in the domain of wine microbiome. The researcher must demonstrate the capacity to attract funds from EU programs, such as COMPETE2020 in the domain of wine microbiome. Furthermore, a strong outreach activities background, proving clear science communication skills, and promoting knowledge transfer between different stakeholders, including industry partners, research institutions, and the broader community, is crucial.Finally, it should also have experience in student and research fellows’ supervision, at least 5, and own teaching skills related to Microbiology, Medicine, and Developmental Biology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.Thus, the candidate will bring a strong background and experience in the scientific areas relevant to the organization´s objectives, mainly in the fields of microbiology and biotechnology. Leadership, project management, and the ability to create impact beyond the academic sphere are essential. These qualities are vital for exploring biocontrol agents to produce more natural and healthy wines and address the issue of antibiotic resistance. Rationale for Researcher Position:Hiring a dedicated researcher is crucial for coordinating and executing collaborative research projects involving HMN, ABC-Ri, and UAlg. The outlined tasks underline the need for an individual skilled in interdisciplinary research, promoting knowledge exchange between academia and industry. Leadership and strategic coordination are essential for successful project planning and execution of in-depth studies on using indigenous wine yeasts for industrial and biomedical solutions, such as wine spoilage and human pathogens.Facilitating collaboration between UAlg scientists and industry experts is key to promoting a multidisciplinary approach to the effective use of indigenous yeasts. Oversight of data analysis and report preparation with proactive funding identification is crucial for sustaining excellent research. Effective communication of research outcomes to industry and academia is essential. Supervision of undergraduate and grad students and teaching activities enhances knowledge in microbiology and basic health medicine.In summary, choosing a skilled researcher is crucial for leading interdisciplinary projects, collaborating with biomedical and oenological experts, exploiting indigenous yeasts as antimicrobial agents, and driving innovation in natural organic wine production. This collaborative and innovative approach contributes significantly to promoting a healthy and sustainable wine production.

  • Beneficiários Diretos são aqueles cujos financiamento e projetos a executar constam do Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência negociado e aprovado pela União Europeia;
