One idea, four paths

Portugal 2020 is an instrument supported by European Funding, with specific objectives, enshrining the national policy for economic, social and territorial development between 2014 and 2020.

The four strategic fields upon which it is based steer the allocation of funds and the measurement of their results, aimed at the country's Intelligent, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth.

Purposes of each strategic area

  1. More exports;
  2. More qualified employment;
  3. More investment in Research, Development and Innovation;
  4. Empower SMEs to operate in global markets;
  5. Reduce costs and time for transporting goods;
  6. A more modern Public Administration.
  1. Improve access to employment for young people and the most vulnerable groups;
  2. Promote the development of skills for integration and reintegration into the labor market;
  3. Improve access to health and social services;
  4. Promote active inclusion and equal opportunities.
  1. Reduce early school leaving;
  2. Strengthen vocational education and its link to the labor market;
  3. Invest in higher education and advanced training;
  4. Improve the quality of education and training;
  5. Increase educational success and employability.
  1. Moving towards a low carbon economy;
  2. Invest in the use of renewables, in energy efficiency and smart grids;
  3. Increase capacity to adapt to climate change;
  4. Protect the coastline from erosion, reduce forest fires and prevent flooding;
  5. Reduce and recycle waste and promote efficient water management.

Operational programmes

Taking into account the strategic objectives defined for each area, Portugal 2020 is organised into 16 different thematic and regional operational programmes.

These operational programmes gather the resources of the European Funding and make them available to the country through calls for tenders to which any entity can apply, considering the strategic priorities of each operational programme.

From applying to the project

The Portugal 2020 national investment framework is coming to an end, which is why there are currently limited opportunities to submit applications. However, any entity can apply for funding for a project idea that they want to build and implement, under any of the operational programmes available. Below is a brief description of the main stages of the application process.

Primeiro

Developing and documenting a project idea in as much detail as possible

Segundo

Applying for funding according to the availability of each call

Terceiro

️Finding out the outcome of the application and starting to implement the project

Quarto

Keeping track of all costs and submitting expenditure for reimbursement

Quinto

Assessing the project's implementation and concluding the formal funding process
