The candidate is expected to have a PhD degree in Science Engineering, or Geophysics. The successful candidate will actively participate in the research activities of Instituto de Astrofísica e Ciências do Espaço (IA), including lecturing and supervising undergraduate and graduate students, as well as outreach activities.The ideal candidate should have a strong background in the study of the interaction between the Sun and the near-Earth environment, including the Heliosphere, Magnetosphere, and Ionosphere. Particularly in the assessment of Space Weather hazards with the potential to threaten critical infrastructures like power grids, pipelines, and railway systems, and ionospheric disturbances with impact in the GNSS satellite quality signal threatening air navigation. The candidate is also expected to develop algorithms for the automatic extraction of solar activity to be integrated with space weather data.The IA aims to further develop this research line in the UC node ensuring national leadership in this field being already one of the main partners of the Portuguese Space Agency in this field, and increasing its already strong involvement in the European Space Weather community.In addition, this person will be responsible for submitting proposals to various funding bodies as the Principal Investigator and as a member of the research team.This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced researcher to join a dynamic team and make a significant contribution to the field of Space Weather and solar activity.The candidate is also expected to assist with the ongoing education and public outreach unit of the Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory of UC, equipped with a digital planetarium, a museological collection, a spectroheliograph, and a telescope dome.
Beneficiaries
The two types are::
- Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
- Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.
Call for applications
As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.
The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
