RationaleThe field of Artificial Intelligence, particularly generative intelligence tools, and the ethical issues related to their use represent an opportunity for immediate research to which linguistic knowledge is fundamental. CELGA-ILTEC is particularly well positioned to make a relevant contribution to the advancement of knowledge in this area given the huge amount of open access, reliable linguistic data and resources it has produced over the past decade. These resources include, for example, more than 10 open access and searchable linguistic corpora and the lexical database underlying the Portal da Língua Portuguesa, which hosts the legal official tools and resources for the spelling standardization in Portugal.In addition to this, CELGA-ILTEC has successfully established strategic partnerships with international research consortiums, reference universities and civil society institutions in several Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa and Asia (ex. Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, in Mozambique; Macao Polytechnic University and IPOR in Macao; Uni-CV), as well as language policy agencies such as IILP (International Institute for the Portuguese Language) and Camões, I.P. These partnerships offer the unique opportunity to engage in the documentation and creation of curated datasets of non-dominant varieties of Portuguese. This is important because the data on non-dominant varieties of Portuguese are currently extremely scarce and, most importantly, representative of a specific number of language uses, which may constraint the reliability of the data for research purposes.The continuous development of both existing and future resources, as well as their adjustment to the generative AI revolution, requires a full-time computational linguist who can coordinate the process, liaise with CELGA-ILTEC’s external providers of specific computational services and hence help the center maintain its tradition of carrying out applied linguistic with high societal impact, as is the case of Portal da Língua Portuguesa.
Beneficiaries
The two types are::
- Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
- Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.
Call for applications
As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.
The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
Final evaluation score
The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.
