General Description and profile :This position in Nuclear Physics is opened for a Theoretical and Computational Nuclear Physicist profile. In contrast to experimental Nuclear/Hadronic Physics and Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear/Hadron theory is methodologically less diverse: it unifies phenomena, through general frameworks, which are Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Field Theory, consisting of basic principles and techniques enabling broad applications. These two frameworks guide, help planning and supporting nuclear and hadron physics reaction experiments. The profile of the prospective candidates is defined by a strong background in these two frameworks, to address current challenges in Nuclear Physics, as for example, the complexity of clusterization properties, valence and critical behavior of hadrons and nuclei, and the short-range nuclear interaction. Rationale :-The Nuclear Engineering and Techniques multidisciplinary Group at C2TN develops a variety of specialized experimental techniques, including gamma and alpha spectroscopy, ion-beam based techniques such as Nuclear Reaction Analysis and hyperfine interaction techniques. These listed techniques demand the understanding of the nuclear interaction, as well as theoretical support for data analysis and interpretation. It becomes a major interest of C2TN and DECN to strengthen the area of Theoretical Nuclear Physics within the Nuclear Engineering and Techniques Group, in alignment with its strategic plan and international frontier advances.-This strategic hire will also contribute to a dynamical advanced training within a Doctoral Program offered by DECN. Prioritizing active learning and immersion in current research findings, the hire of a theorist is to enrich the academic experience and to provide students with valuable insights and skills relevant for future scenarios.-The 21st-century is showing the need for a skilled quantum-expert workforce, due namely to the acceleration for Quantum Simulations. There is a growing need for a theoretically trained workforce equipped with a wide range of skills, including big data and innovative algorithms. Historically, these are the basic tools of Theoretical Nuclear Physicists. A robust Nuclear Theory workforce broadens the scope of nuclear training programs and develops connections and ideas for future research directions. Job description :Prospective candidates must hold, by the date of the upcoming opening, a doctoral degree in Nuclear Physics or related areas, and show evidence of conducting research in theoretical nuclear/hadron physics, with a clear potential to promote and lead research activities in the area of Nuclear and Hadron Theory. Good communication and soft skills are also required, and a successful teaching record showing ability to engage students.The candidates will be expected to:1) Develop a strong and independent research career with national and international recognition;2) Develop a research program, which is capable of attracting competitive funding at the national and international level;3) Supervise undergraduate, MSc and PhD students;4) Contribute to undergraduate and graduate (MSc and PhD) teaching programs;5) Carry out other service activities as a faculty member, by interacting collegially and maintaining the highest standard of integrity and ethics.Theoretical Nuclear and Hadron Physics research in DECN and the scientific area of Nuclear Technologies and Radiological Protection, specifically the Group for Nuclear Engineering and Techniques of C2TN, needs critical mass and urgent rejuvenation to relaunch its activities for the coming decades. The hiring of talented researchers will be essential to maintain the scientific leadership of IST in the field of Nuclear Sciences and Technologies and enhance its competencies in newer horizons and computational methods. The researcher will be integrated into the Nuclear Engineering and Techniques multidisciplinary Group at C2TN.This position complies with the legal obligations of opening a call for research functions compatible with existing DL57/16 contracts.
Beneficiaries
The two types are::
- Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
- Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.
Call for applications
As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.
The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
Final evaluation score
The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.
