The candidate should develop research with scientific autonomy but aligned with the scientific strategy of CES, contributing to Thematic Line RISE - Research Line Risk(s), Ecologies, Health, which examines risks and threats and their impacts on the ecosystem and human and non-human well-being. Its integrated approach encompasses issues on climate change, health transformations and emergencies, (bio)surveillance and social control. It aims to propose sustainable, ecological and equity-based alternatives for healthcare and social well-being, relying on collaborative and participatory methodologies.The researcher should advance a research plan that accomplishes the following goals :challenge conceptualizations and representations of health/illness/disability;develop analysis on the connections between health/illness/disability and social exclusion;examine the ways in which public policy (political institutions, social policies, legislative and judicial provisions) mitigates or amplifies inequalities that derive from physical and/or mental illness or disability;propose policy recommendations that promote inclusive and anti-discriminatory policies.The research should be aligned with the following strategic research principles at CES :produce original and empirically-based knowledge;develop analysis with a focus on European peripheries and/or the Global South;offer ground-breaking theoretical contributions that advance the state of the art through relevant (inter)disciplinary crossings;foster the intersection between social sciences, arts and humanities;adopt a mix (quantitative and qualitative) of research methods;adopt collaborative methods of knowledge co-creation (involving citizens, policymakers, advocacy groups and civil society organizations);disseminate to the results to wider academic public, including an ambitious publication strategy;contribute to CES advanced training, namely by participating in Summer and Winter Schools or Doctoral Programs, supervising students, post-doctoral or visiting fellows;foster the impact of research to the wider society through varied means of dissemination (digital platforms, cultural initiatives, etc.).contribute to consolidate national-based and international research collaborations, namely securing funding for research projects. SCIENTIFIC PROFILE REQUIRED BY THE HIRING INSTITUTION:Based on the previously mentioned tasks, the candidate should have a background in health and or disability studies and social policy, with a clear emphasis and expertise in the use of methodologies that promote and supporte the role of patients, families and communities in the production of knowledge around care and healing. The candidate should also demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary research, bridging analysis on the persistence of inequalities based on illness and disability and public policies devoted to combat those structural inequalities, along with a proficient use of empirical methodologies and analytical theoretical frameworks. Additionally, prior experience in securing competitive funding and leading research projects and research teams, the ability to establish and sustain strategic international collaborations that can improve the quality of the scientific research performed, and to attract and train young researchers will also be required skills to fit this position. Moreover, knowledge transfer skills (e.g. outreach and dissemination of research outputs to maximize its social impact) will be highly valued. RATIONALE FOR THE NEED TO HIRE FOR THE INDICATED SCIENTIFIC AREAOne of CES strategic goals is the evaluation of interventions in health, health care, mental health and illness, promoting and supporting the role of patients, families and communities in care and healing. This requires attending to different experiences, voices and narratives, promoting creative agency and resistance to diverse forms of domination. The researcher hired for this position is expected to better contribute to innovative proposals for a more inclusive and cohesive society that fosters proximity relations based on the principles of community and diversity.By strengthening the research potential of the Thematic Line RISE, with added expertise on health issues and social policy, CES upholds its commitment to producing ground-breaking research, with international impact, that contributes to substantial personal and societal benefits for those facing vulnerability, empowering them psychosocially.
Beneficiaries
The two types are::
- Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
- Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.
Call for applications
As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.
The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
Final evaluation score
The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.
