Summary

Rationale for the ICS-ULisboa Strategic Planning : The study of the socio-ecological impacts of climate change through the lens of environmental sociology is a well-established research focus at the ICS-ULisboa. This area has thrived on interdisciplinary perspectives, encompassing environmental social sciences and development studies. ICS-ULisboa environmental sociologists have worked on topics as diverse as the Portuguese population´s environmental representations and practices, the social dimensions of global climate change, and areas such as environmental and climate communication, water scarcity, car mobility, sustainable food production and consumption, renewable energies, coastal management, circular economy, water governance, local climate change strategies and implementation, environmental policies, environmental education, forest fires, waste practices, noise, water and air pollutions, resource extraction practices, among many others. This groundbreaking and extensive work has made the ICS-ULisboa a leader in environmental sociology in Portugal and has earned it high international esteem.The impending retirement of a key figure in environmental sociology at the ICS-ULisboa underlines the need for continued scholarly engagement in this critical field. This remarkable legacy would benefit from the recruitment of a post-doctoral researcher who would be fundamental in maintaining continuity in some of these key areas, but who would also have the potential to innovate and develop new, less explored avenues, namely the area of Sustainable Futures and just transitions. This innovative capacity would be crucial in consolidating the profile of the ICS-ULisboa as a pioneering centre in Portuguese and European environmental social sciences. Required Scientific Profile : In addition to a demonstrated interest in the topic, the PhD Researcher to be recruited should have: a) a PhD in Sociology and related areas; b) a relevant CV in the field of environmental sociology, with particular emphasis on Sustainable Futures and just transitions with a proven track international profile (e.g. international collaborations and networks, a repertoire of publications in top quality journals and or book publications, experience in project-based research and outreach activities); c) solid methodological training in quantitative and qualitative methods, stakeholder engagement and participatory methods; d) proven experience in initiating innovative, cutting-edge, research strands and topics; e) proven experience in teaching post-graduate courses; f) experience in applying to highly competitive funding, both at international and national levels; vii) experience in coordinating international teams; g) and preferable experience in outlining and co-developing recommendations to decision-makers in both the private and public sectors.??????? Tasks to be assigned : The Assistant Researcher to be recruited will carry out activities in the field of Sustainable Futures with an emphasis on just transitions to generate innovative and impactful knowledge on the socio-ecological impacts of climate change, socio-environmental vulnerability, environmental justice, resource scarcity, climate conflicts and adaptation synergies, the mechanisms of social change implicated in just transitions, conflicts over resources (water, land use, energy).These activities include: a) designing research projects for national and international calls; b) coordinating research teams and leading the implementation of projects in research and scientific and technological development; c) conducting training activities in scientific research methods and development in this field; d) supervising master’s and PhD students; e) proposing outreach interventions based on results obtained in a research project conducted in this scientific domain; f) contributing to academic management at the ICS-ULisboa.This Researcher will develop activities contributing to several TLs, but especially within the Sustainability and Inclusion Thematic Lines .

Beneficiaries

Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, two types of beneficiaries are responsible for carrying out the projects and using the funding provided. Due to their similar role, the reference to these two types of beneficiaries has been simplified and unified under the term "Beneficiary".
The two types are::
  • Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
  • Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.

Call for applications

As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.

The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.

Final evaluation score

9,3
Important note

The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.
