Summary

Assigned Tasks- Development of new photochromic systems for different industrial applications such as ophthalmic lens that darken under sunlight, 3D printing using light, Molecular Solar Thermal Energy Storage Systems.- Synthesis of new light sensible heterocyclic compounds, such as naphthopyrans, spiropyrans and diarylethenes, and adaptation of their photoswitching properties to the intended application. Exploration of new synthetic approaches for the target molecules, optimization of the reaction conditions for enhanced yields and purity.- Evaluation the photoswitching properties of the synthesized compounds based on a range of parameters including absorption spectrum, photoreaction efficiency, photoisomer lifetime, cyclability, energy storage capacity, as well as the ability to produce radicals, etc.- Incorporation of these photoswitching molecules into polymeric matrices in order to obtain new functional materials and characterization of their properties. Scientific profileThe candidate must have the following profile-  Doctorate degree in Chemistry with a specialization in organic chemistry.- Extensive scientific background in the design, synthesis and purification of heterocyclic photochromic compounds, expertise in different structural characterization techniques, such as NMR, Mass Spectrometry, UV-Vis and Infrared Spectroscopy and experience in developing photochromic coatings.- Publication of a minimum of 25 articles in Q1 and Q2 scientific journals (Journal Citation Reports). Primary or corresponding authorship in at least 15 of these publications and possess an h-index of at least 13 without self-citations.- Active participation in funded research projectsThe research unit Centro de Química – Vila real has 4 research groups dedicated to different areas of chemistry notably: Applied organic chemistry; Materials Chemistry; Environmental Chemistry; Food Chemistry. Following the last evaluation process a researcher in the area of applied organic chemistry was hired to reinforce this area. The ongoing research in this scientific area requires a collaborative and knowledgeable team that can be built upon the foundation laid by the previous researchers.The specialized skill set demanded by this scientific profile is thus seamlessly aligned with the unit’s scientific objectives. Strengthening the unit’s human capacity in this specified scientific domain, will enable to continue the development of new innovative materials and enhance the previously established knowledge transfer with the industry, which is one of the unit’s goals. By recruiting for this specific area, we aim to fortify the research capabilities, fostering innovation and sustained excellence in addressing both current and future challenges within this dynamic field.

Beneficiaries

Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, two types of beneficiaries are responsible for carrying out the projects and using the funding provided. Due to their similar role, the reference to these two types of beneficiaries has been simplified and unified under the term "Beneficiary".
The two types are::
  • Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
  • Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.

Call for applications

As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.

The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.

Final evaluation score

8,9
Important note

The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.

Selection criteria

The funding selection criteria to which this project and its final beneficiary were subject and its score can be found in detail on the Recuperar Portugal platform.

Procurement

Beneficiaries representing public entities implement their project by signing one or more contracts with suppliers for goods or services through public procurement procedures.

To ensure and provide the utmost transparency in all these contracts, a list of the contracts that were signed under this project is available here, along with the information available on the Base.Gov platform. Please note that, according to the legislation in force at the time the contract was signed, some exceptions do not require the publication of the contracts signed on this platform, and, therefore, no information is available in such cases.
