Summary

This position aims to develop research activities in the thematic area of environment and sustainability, in particular on climate change and on the intersection of current social, economic, cultural and environmental challenges in different levels of territories (local, national and international) in fields such as housing, mobility, public space, social inclusion and the organization of social and economic activities (sustainable consumption, tourism, creative dynamics, food-energy-water supply, platform economy, etc.). These activities should be conducted with a particular focus on contributing to public policies. The researcher will be expected to design and carry out research projects and studies, publish and disseminate results and analyses, both nationally and internationally, establish partnerships and institutional collaborations, supervise theses and dissertations and collaborate in teaching activities within the established limits for researchers, in particular in masters’ and PhD programmes or in specialised curricular units of 1st cycle courses. The researcher to be hired should have experience of research and coordination of research projects and studies the thematic area of environment and sustainability. They should also have experience of articulating research in these areas with public policies and collaborative studies with public institutions. This profile cuts across the research carried out by the different CIES research groups and will enable the development and consolidation of an area of growing relevance in the face of current societal challenges related to the emergence of climate and environmental issues. Furthermore, this profile should link up directly with the objectives of  the Thematic Line “Regenerative Territories for Carbon Neutrality” of Iscte SocioDigital Lab for Public Policies, namely to contribute to a more sustainable planning of cities and territories, in order to address current social, economic, cultural and environmental challenges; to promote environmental public policies for mitigation and adaptation to climate change; and to contribute to the transition to territorial sustainability. Regarding teaching activity at Iscte, it is expected that the researcher will articulate the research activity with the teaching of content about environment and sustainability in master´s programme, in one of the seven doctoral programmes managed by CIES or other courses.

Beneficiaries

Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, two types of beneficiaries are responsible for carrying out the projects and using the funding provided. Due to their similar role, the reference to these two types of beneficiaries has been simplified and unified under the term "Beneficiary".
The two types are::
  • Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
  • Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.

Call for applications

As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.

The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
