Summary

Hiring of an assistant researcher with specialized training and extensive experience in advanced quantitative research methods and data analyses in Social Sciences to advance our R&D unit objectives to foster a culture of excellence in quantitative research.It is expected the successful candidate to:design and implement complex research protocols in Psychology, with a strong emphasis on experimental and observational methodologies and various research tools and techniques, such as surveys, interviews, and experimental manipulationsbe an expert in sophisticated data analyses, collaborating in different ongoing research projects that involve the analysis of complex datasetsincrease the chances of attracting funding, by consulting in designing and implementing projectsalign with best practices in open science, demonstrating experience in organizing, documenting, and archiving research data to facilitate reproducibility and future analysessupport researchers in designing and implementing effective data management planscontribute to teaching of 3rd cycle methodological courses (Interdisciplinary U.Porto PhD Program in Mental Health, approved by A3ES; PhD Program in Psychology, ongoing) and engage in supervising and mentoring activities of PhD studentspublish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferencescontribute to science communication, by translating statistical results into meaningful insights for a non-specialist audience Scientific profile: The selected candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Psychology and possess strong analytical skills and a proven track record of conducting impactful research and contributing to developing research projects, using various research tools and techniques, such as surveys, interviews, and experimental manipulations. The candidate should have a solid knowledge of and experience in data analysis, with strong emphases in advanced statistics, psychometrics, and machine learning analytical technics. This includes expertise in applying advanced Structural Equation Models (e.g., measurement invariance, multi-trait multi-method models, linear and nonlinear latent growth models), Mixture Models (e.g., latent classes and profiles analyses, latent transition models), Missing Data Analysis, Statistical Simulation (e.g., Monte Carlo integration, Bootstrap, and Jackknife methods), power analyses to determine sample sizes and optimize study design, among others. Proficiency in data mining techniques, including supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms, and data visualization tools will also be highly valued. In addition, proficiency in programming languages such as R and Python for advanced data analyses and the capability to develop custom scripts and programs to automate repetitive tasks and streamline data analysis processes is crucial. Familiarity with SQL and other relevant programming languages for managing and querying databases will also be valued. The candidate should also possess at least a basic knowledge of best practices in data version control, including version control systems like Git, and strong skills in data cleaning, processing, transformation, and quality control processes to ensure the quality and integrity of research data. The candidate should have experience in consulting and in supervising students’ projects. Moreover, we value candidates with a deep understanding of ethical considerations inherent in psychological research, coupled with hands-on experience in designing and implementing effective data management plans for research projects. Rationale: A position of an expert in advanced methods in Social Sciences within the Center for Psychology at University of Porto can significantly enrich the research environment, leading to methodologically rigorous, and impactful research outcomes. This expertise not only enhances the quality of research conducted within the unit but also fosters collaboration, innovation, and capacity building, ultimately advancing our understanding of the complexities of human behavior and mental processes. More specifically, an expert in advanced methods brings specialized knowledge and skills that can enhance the rigor and validity of research conducted within the unit. Moreover, advanced methods in Social Sciences often involve cutting-edge approaches that allow researchers to address novel research questions and explore emerging areas of inquiry. By incorporating innovative research designs and techniques, CPUP can stay at the forefront of scientific inquiry, pushing the boundaries of knowledge and contributing to theoretical advancements in the field.

Beneficiaries

Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, two types of beneficiaries are responsible for carrying out the projects and using the funding provided. Due to their similar role, the reference to these two types of beneficiaries has been simplified and unified under the term "Beneficiary".
The two types are::
  • Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
  • Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.

Call for applications

As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.

The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.

Final evaluation score

8,8
Important note

The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.

Selection criteria

The funding selection criteria to which this project and its final beneficiary were subject and its score can be found in detail on the Recuperar Portugal platform.
