The prospective employee is expected to work as an Assistant Professor in the field of Palliative Care. The employee is expected to work in research and teaching activities at the Department for the Integrated Master’s Degree in Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. In particular, the employee is expected to work on monitoring and assessment of clinical and psychosocial issues in palliative care, synthesis studies, palliative care evaluation studies, generation of evidence based on palliative care, and guideline development in palliative care. The employee is expected to have knowledge and experience in doing research and teaching in these fields. In addition, the employee is expected to have a clinical background and knowledge and experience in palliative care. The Department for the Integrated Master´s Degree in Medicine has a relevant research and teaching track record in the Palliative Care field. This is indicated by (i) the high number of Palliative Care PhD and Master thesis (more than 200 concluded); ii) a relevant number of articles published in this field in high-impact factor journals; iii) a high number of research projects approved in Palliative Care both national and international; iv) the organization of a Master in Palliative Care 12th edition; Master in Paediatric Palliative Care 1st edition; PhD in Palliative Care 7th edition and a mandatory subject in palliative care in the 6th year of the Graduation in Medicine, (v) and by the participation in technology transfer and services provision activities (involving public, private, national or international entities – e.g., International Chair in Bioethics, Portuguese Association of Palliative Care, European Association of Palliative Care, St. Christopher’s Hospice). This research activity is done in close connection with the Associate Laboratory RISE (Health Research Network). In fact, the Thematic Line Bioethics of RISE is fully dedicated to bioethics and palliative care. The Department has also displayed a vibrant teaching activity in the Palliative Care field, with contents on clinical and psychosocial evidence, economics and ethics, management and new technologies being one of the cornerstones of the Doctoral Programme in Palliative Care and of the Master’s Degree in Palliative Care and Paediatric Palliative Care. In addition, these contents are taught in the Bioethics Doctoral Programme and Master’s Degree in Bioethics. Topics on Palliative Care are gradually of key importance to the Graduation Course in Medicine, in particular to its branch of Bioethics and Palliative Care. Given this background and the need to further develop research and teaching activities in this field, hiring an Assistant Professor in the Palliative Care area is necessary.
