The promotion of a culture focused on scientific and clinical excellence in an international context requires that the necessary synergies be ensured for the continued development of basic research combined with clinical research within the clinical services of university hospitals.Reinforcing human critical mass to support infrastructures and support services for the development of high-quality clinical research, in addition to contributing to the success of reference projects that guarantee integrated and innovative forms of care, teaching and research activities clinical and translational, will ultimately benefit the patient in accessing new treatments and innovative therapies.The proposal envisages the promotion of clinical research projects, fostering interactions between care and research missions within the network of institutions and reinforcing national and international cooperation for advanced research in biomedicine and clinical medicine within the interinstitutional collaboration network. It also provides for the development of academic training programs in medicine, biomedical and health sciences, promoting the modernization and specialized qualification of the human resources involved. This hiring aims to carry out management and communication functions regarding science and technology in the area of clinical research, namely in the implementation and monitoring of academic-based clinical trials.Clinical studies constitute one of the main strategic areas of healthcare development in Portugal. Placing Portugal among the most attractive countries for conducting clinical studies in the European Union and increasing the value created for patients, the health system, academia and society is the vision assumed by the Portuguese Government for the area of clinical research (Resolution of the Council of Ministers no. 27/2018)Clinical trials (CT) are fundamental to developing new medicines. Clinical trials are the gateway between scientific research and clinical practice. These phases have great importance as they stand as a keystone for the economy, providing patients with early access to innovative medicines.The proposed position will contribute to:Promote active integration into clinical and translational research infrastructure specialization platforms.Establish contacts, partnerships and collaborations with entities in the clinical research sector in order to attract funds and support, thus enhancing innovation, competitiveness, and quality of the activity carried out.Develop national and international cooperation in clinical research through the development of quality clinical studies, focusing on therapeutic innovation for the benefit of patients, citizens and the national health system.Provide support in the conduct and management of academic clinical trials or those sponsored by the pharmaceutical and medical devices industry, particularly in their implementation, coordination and monitoring.Work closely with members of the national research sector network and regulatory authorities in Portugal and Europe and other relevant bodies/institutions.Ensure the protection of patients´ rights and well-being and conduct studies in accordance with protocols approved by applicable regulations.
Beneficiaries
The two types are::
- Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
- Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.
Call for applications
As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.
The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
