The Assistant Professor of Healthcare Management and Economics position at the Department of Community Medicine, Information and Health Decision Sciences (MEDCIDS) of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto aims to reinforce the research, teaching, and outreach initiatives in such fields as healthcare management, value-based healthcare, policy research and applied economics. This role is vital for advancing healthcare management and economics through innovative research on healthcare delivery systems and policy impact analysis. The faculty member will be instrumental in developing and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, addressing contemporary challenges, and mentoring students. In addition, the professional to hire is expected to actively collaborate with healthcare organizations, government bodies, and industry partners, contributing to shaping healthcare policy and practices. The candidate should possess deep knowledge and experience in research and teaching within these fields. Professional experience in these fields and a strong background in data analysis are also desirable.This position is needed due to the increasing need for economic evaluation and strategic management in the healthcare sector, driven by economic pressures, technological advancements, and the complexity of integrating various levels of care. MEDCIDS, along with the associate laboratory RISE (whose Thematic Line 4 has a focus on health policy and digital transformation), is expanding its capabilities to enhance its research impact and educational offerings in Healthcare Management and Economics. This strategic hire is intended to bolster connections with healthcare institutions and policymakers, positioning its research and graduates to lead in addressing modern healthcare challenges.Additionally, MEDCIDS has shown robust teaching activities in this field, with contents on project management, health management, and leadership being taught in postgraduate programs such as (i) the Healthcare Policies, Management and Evaluation (PAAS) Continuous Education course, (ii) the Doctoral Programme in Health Data Science (with a branch dedicated for policy and entrepreneurship)m and (iii) Master in Medical Informatics, Master in Evidence and Decision. The new BSc course on Digital Health and Biomedical Innovation will also teach these areas, ensuring a comprehensive educational approach to healthcare management and economics.
Beneficiaries
The two types are::
- Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
- Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.
Call for applications
As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.
The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
