The successful candidate will lead a cutting-edge research program focused on understanding the neurobiological mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders. Rationale :RISE is committed to advancing health research in Portugal and promoting translational research that bridges the gap between basic science and clinical applications. The hiring of a Principal Investigator in Neuropsychiatric and Neurodevelopmental disorders aligns with RISE´s mission to strengthen research in neuroscience and contribute to the understanding and treatment of brain disorders.Neurological and psychiatric disorders represent significant public health challenges, affecting millions of individuals worldwide. By investing in basic research in neuroscience, RISE aims to uncover the underlying mechanisms of brain disorders and develop novel therapeutic strategies. The integration of cutting-edge neuroscience methods into our research program will enhance our ability to make meaningful discoveries and translate them into clinical applications, ultimately improving patient outcomes and advancing healthcare.The Principal Investigator in Neuropsychiatric and Neurodevelopmental disorders will play a key role in leading research projects, mentoring junior researchers, and collaborating with other research groups within RISE and external partners. Their expertise in utilizing advanced neuroscience techniques will contribute to the development of innovative approaches for studying brain function and dysfunction, ultimately leading to new insights into the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders.This position represents an exciting opportunity for an experienced neuroscientist to significantly impact the field and contribute to RISE´s mission of promoting research excellence and innovation in health sciences. Scientific Profile :The ideal candidate will have:1) A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Neuroscience or related field.2) Proven track record of peer-reviewed international publications, including as senior/corresponding author, in the field of neuroscience, with a focus on animal models of neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders.3) Expertise in utilizing cutting-edge neuroscience methods, including transgenic animal models of brain disorders, probabilistic machine learning for analyzing animal behavior, optogenetics, chemogenetics, and brain electrophysiology.4) Demonstrated ability to attract competitive funding for research, including grants as Principal Investigator from national and international funding agencies.5) Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary research environment.6) Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary research programs in collaboration with other national and international research groups.7) Experience in leading and managing a research team, including supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Beneficiaries
The two types are::
- Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
- Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.
Call for applications
As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.
The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
Final evaluation score
The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.
