Summary

Aligned with the ESEnfC strategy and the UICISA: E development strategic axis for Science Synthesis and Implementation, the position announced is for research in evidence-based healthcare (EBHC), specifically in science synthesis, transfer, and implementation. The selected researcher will work at the Portugal Centre for Evidence Based Practice: a JBI Centre of Excellence, hosted by the UICISA: E since 2011. The UICISA: E and the ESEnfC are strongly committed to narrowing the internationally recognized 17-year research-to-practice gap, thus improving care quality and health outcomes.The selected researcher will be responsible for carrying out research and development activities, as well as other scientific and technical activities. These will align with the mission and vision of the UICISA: E and the ESEnfC and focus on the advancement of knowledge in EBHC in order to improve care quality and the sustainability of healthcare systems.The selected researcher will:participate in the design, development, and execution of research and development projects and related scientific and technical activities to promote the advancement in EBHC knowledge, particularly regarding science synthesis, transfer, and implementation;supervise students (from research initiation to advanced research) and promote their training;collaborate in training activities within the scope of evidence synthesis, transfer, and implementation;guide research teams in the elaboration of systematic reviews and implementation projects;assist with managing the activities of the Portugal Centre for Evidence Based Practice: a JBI Centre of Excellence.Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a field of healthcare, preferably in nursing, and have a profound understanding of EBHC. Essential skills should include expertise in evidence synthesis, evidence transfer, and evidence implementation, as well as methodological expertise and experience in conducting systematic reviews, including building advanced search strategies, and carrying out projects to integrate evidence into clinical practice.Furthermore, applicants should have excellent communication skills in English for effective collaboration with international researchers and health professionals and the transfer and dissemination of research outcomes.The need for a specialized researcher is justified by the current challenges posed in healthcare settings. Despite the efforts of the last thirty years, healthcare settings still face low rates of compliance with best practices, as only 60% of the care delivered is evidence- or consensus-based, 30% is wasted or of low value, and 10% is harmful.The selected researcher will contribute to overcoming these challenges by conducting research in EBHC, collaborating in systematic reviews to inform clinical practice, promoting evidence transfer, and supporting the integration of evidence into clinical practice by participating in evidence implementation projects. Furthermore, the selected researcher will contribute to the scientific community and, directly and indirectly, assist with achieving better, safer, and more cost-effective care.

Beneficiaries

Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, two types of beneficiaries are responsible for carrying out the projects and using the funding provided. Due to their similar role, the reference to these two types of beneficiaries has been simplified and unified under the term "Beneficiary".
The two types are::
  • Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
  • Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.

Call for applications

As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.

The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
