The University of Minho and the ALGORITMI Centre seek a proficient and innovative Assistant Professor in the field of Data Science and Machine Learning (DS&ML). This role encompasses tasks that contribute significantly to the advancement of research, innovation, and knowledge dissemination in the domains of data science and machine learning.Job description- Conduct Original Research: Lead and conduct original research in data science and machine learning, focusing on the development of novel algorithms, models, and methodologies. Address complex problems in areas such as predictive analytics, pattern recognition, computer vision, NLP and data engineering. - Collaborate with Interdisciplinary Teams: Engage in collaborative projects with researchers from diverse disciplines, fostering an interdisciplinary approach to DS&ML research. Contribute to research initiatives that apply DS&ML techniques to diverse domains, including healthcare, finance, industry and technology. - Publish in Leading Journals and Conferences: Disseminate research findings through high-impact publications in prestigious scientific journals and conferences. Actively contribute to the academic community by presenting research at conferences and workshops. - Grant Proposal Development: Contribute to the preparation and submission of research grant proposals to secure external funding for DS&ML research projects. Actively seek opportunities for research funding from government agencies, industry partners, and other sources. - Technology Transfer: Collaborate with industry partners to transfer research outcomes into practical applications. Contribute to the ALGORITMI Centre´s mission of translating cutting-edge DS&ML research into solutions with tangible societal and industrial impact. - Supervise Graduate Students: Mentor and supervise graduate students involved in DS&ML research projects. Provide guidance and support for their academic and research activities. - Integration of DS&ML in Education: Collaborate with the Department of Informatics to integrate DS&ML methodologies into educational programs. Contribute to curriculum development, teach relevant courses, and provide students with hands-on experience in DS&ML applications. - Stay Abreast of Emerging Trends: Keep abreast of the latest developments and trends in DS&ML research and related fields. Contribute to the intellectual environment of the ALGORITMI Centre/LASI and Informatics Department through participation in seminars, workshops, and conferences.Scientific ProfileThe ideal candidate will possess:- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field. - Proven Research Track Record: Demonstrated excellence in DS&ML research, with a good publication record in reputable journals and conferences. - Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
- Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.
Call for applications
As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.
